picked up an '87 last week, 22re, 5-speed, with only 97,xxx on the odo. most of the exterior body panels were replaced. it's one of the "utility" runners, without the rear seats. it has the factory delete plate in the back to add to the cargo space. frame is in good condition.
i fixed the fuel pressure damper, which was leaking pretty hard. when i took it out, the small screw at the bottom was out and sitting in the plastic "guard/case". put it back, and added JB weld to cover the screw. leak gone, but i ordered a new damper to carry with me if it does start to leak again.
the runner replaces my '95 legacy that has 300K on the odo, but rust is finally eating the rear strut towers/support area, and the gas tank has a tiny leak. replacing tanks on those is a fairly major project, and with the rust getting worse, i decided to get something else. thus, the older runner, albeit with low mileage. an advantage is that i can register it as an antique in nh, and it is emissions-exempt. gas mileage won't be as good as the subaru, but i'll be able to access more locations where i work, without having to either walk in, or take my CJ, so it's a good trade-off.
looking forward to using it for the next few years.
