New 2003 4runner

I bought a 2003 4runner this weekend.

It is a Sports Edition 2wd with 150K with Xreas suspension.

I got it for $7400. I wanted a 4wd but this seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. The vehicle will be a 3rd vehicle that will become my sons when he gets his license later this year.

Maintenance records show that it was maintained well and the body and interior are in near perfect condition.

I ordered a set of Toyo Open Country AT II tires and will inspect the brakes when I have these installed. I might go with brakes only on the front to improve the braking. Any thoughts on this.

I also plan on doing a complete tuneup including all the fluids and filters and use it as an opportunity to teach and spend time with my son.

This sight has been so helpful and I feel like it will help me do most of this on my own and save some money.

Where is the best place to buy the parts for the tuneup or should I just get them from the dealer. My big concern is what spark plugs to buy.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I would go with the factory ngk iridium's

Mobile 1 synthetic motor oil

Toyota atf or amsoil synthetic atf

Mobile 1 synthetic diff fluid (I think its 75 90)

Valvoline synthetic dot 3 & 4 brake fluid

IMO NAPA has best pads and rotors.

If the pads are worn down then might as well upgrade to a pad with more bite if you have to replace. I had no issues with OEM pads though some aftermarket ones will help. I know some folks run the redstuff pads. I'm currently running NAPA adaptiveone pads which I've been happy with.

IMO, go OEM for the sparkplugs. Everything else you can get from the local parts store for cheaper and it should be just as good. I run all Mobil1 synthetics and while Mobil1 is not everyones cup of tea, I keep it clean, change fluids at proper intervals and it's all peachy.

You get the V8 or V6? Oh yeh...and post some pics!

IMO all Toyota fluids. Pennzoil Platinum engine oil.

Btw..thanks to this site...I ordered the Toyo OC AT II from tread depot. Saved about $150 on the set of 4. The local 4wd center is going to mount and balance for $100 and will rotate them free.

We are excited to see the T4R with the new tires.

My son wants to paint the rims matte black so we may tackle this project after we get all the mechanical items done. I have seen lots of good help on here about painting wheels.
