I just bought a new 2005 4Runner Sport 4WD, with the Xtreas )sp) suspension and torsen differentials? previously owned a 2000 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner, had 106,000 on it and still going strong! but... I wanted something more comfortable and with 4WD! the 4 Runner is awesome feels like a high class ride and a burly 4 wheeler al at the same time - well to me anyway....

so far it is great! however how do I go into just 4 high do you always have to select the other button on the left side to "lock in the front end" and then turn it to 4WD High? manual is difficult to interpret. I am old school and think of it like getting out locking in the hubs and then selecting 4 high.

wife has a 2005 Highlander - it just seems to know when to use 4WD - and you have the opetion to select it with the ICE / SNOW button.

Congrats and welcome! I wish I could answer your question about the 4WD, but both of my 4Runners have been 2WD. :o

What kind of engine do you have? If its a V8 with 4WD, then it is full time 4WD. If you have the V6 with 4WD, then there is a dial with 4HI, 2HI and 4LO.

4HI means it is in 4WD, 2HI means it is in RWD. 4LO means it is in 4WD in Low Gear. To switch modes, just turn the dial to the respective mode. To go into 4LO, you have to be stopped and in neutral. 4HI and 2HI you can switch between the two under 62MPH and driving in a straight line.

Check your driver's side sunvisor for complete instructions on switching drive modes. Most importantly, RTFM ;):

Welcome the to forums!

I found that engagement/disengagement of Hi/Lo is easier when the vehicle is stopped in neutral. You don
