New 3rd gen...W/ a couple ??'s

Hey ya'll I got my 3rd gen a couple months ago and have been trying to get on the forum ever since...:smashputer: my password wouldn't work and wouldn't reset, it was driving me nuts....

I'm also a member on XR-Underground.com because I recently totalled my 09' X-Runner which is why I now own my 99' 4Runner!

So far I'm very pleased that I bought it, I am a loyal Toyota lover and needed something slightly more practical since I'm getting ready to graduate college....( the 3rd gen with the 5vz-fe was recommended b/c of it's reliablity)

And I've got in mind a few cosmetic upgrades I would like to do first off, but I'm not sure if some of them are even applicable...

1) 01-02' OEM Grill.....will it fit in my 99'????

2) Are the emblems on the 99 and 01-02 grills interchangeable?

3) Will the sport hood fit any model?


Sorry if the questions are already in the forum somewhere, I tried searching but didn't find anything.

#2. Not in my experience. I just swapped my '99 grille for the '01-02 model, and the 01-02 emblem is larger and has a different mounting method...so for now I don't have anything there! The emblem is ~$20 from Toyota. The part number is 75311-60090.

Qyota, did you have to order it or do some dealerships carry them in stock. I assume order, but how long would that take if so?

Also, was it a pain in the ars to get the 99' grill out because I was looking at it real quick the other day and it looks like it's bolted in their pretty well. A lot worse than my X-Runner which took all of 2 minutes to pop out with like 2 screws and 3 rivets holding it in is all...

'99 grill is just clipped in, 5 or 6 of them that you can release with a screw driver. Trick is worrying it out without relocking clips you already opened. Once both you and your grill have done it a few times, it's not that hard.

Once both you and your grill have done it a few times, it's not that hard.

It does get easier after a few times. Like mentioned above, use a flat head screwdriver and press down on the small plastic lever on the clip itself. This will unlock the clips and allow them to slide off the radiator support mounts. I would recommend you look at the clip from the side first so you can see the lever I'm talking about.
