I have owned many vehicles but this is my first Toyota. I went from BMWs to Jeep Wranglers and now I'm in a 1998 4Runner SR5.
This particular SR5 has been in my family since new. My step-dad bought it in 1998, put 210kmi on it, then sold it to my brother. My brother is a whimp who let his girlfriend talk him into only needing one car. I sold my 1992 Wrangler aka "The Heep" so I could buy this Runner from him.
I'm not new to 4Runners. In fact, I took my drivers test on this very truck 8 years ago. But after driving Jeeps for the past few years I now feel like I'm driving a Cadillac :lmao:
My brother didn't take good care of this car
. Good thing he only had it for a few months! In 10kmi he only changed the oil once. He also managed to drive the car into the side of a Honda . He "fixed" it but it's nowhere near where it should be. I plan on fixing a bunch of things that have already bugged me, and it's only the first day.
Repaint and re-align hood, fender, and front trimmings
New turn signal lenses
New shift knob
New radio antenna (where should I look for this?)
New speakers
New shocks
The rear bumper is rusted out so I was thinking just replacing the front and rear bumpers with nice aftermarket offroad bumpers, maybe ARB or similar. If I go that route then I would also go with a mild lift and plus sized BFG ATs. The only thing I have to consider is that this 4Runner still has the original clutch after 215,000 so if I want to dump that much money into it I would need to be sure I would keep it for a while.
Here is a photo of my rig. I shot this with my iPhone with the new HDR feature. It's in low lighting because it'd dark outside so the photo is kind of crappy but oh well.
Here is my Jeep which is actually still for sale.
