New 4runner fanatic in Texas!

Hello 4runner-forum people. I just bought my first 4runner (2006 sr5 4x4), and basically first truck ever, a week ago. I immediatly took the running boards off (they are for sale on this forum!) and got it all muddy in a day. I got some 07 FJ Cruiser rear shocks and coils for free from a buddy and am about to buy some front struts and coils for a 100 bucks on the FJ forum. once i sit those bad boys on ill throw some 32inch BFG all-terrain's on. I am new to the off-roading world but im already crazy about it. I am planning a New Mexico trip in September. I already have tons of plans for this truck! Along with my wife I intend to fully embrace the overland and off-road camping life.

I am stationed in San Antonio TX. Born and raised Texan and finally back in God's country. Some wheeling around S.A. creek beds and up in Bandera hill country area. But with 99.9% of all Texas land being Private its tough to do some cool off-road multi-day drives and camping. Wanna head out to Big Bend soon with my buddy (who drives a Suzuki Equator). Ultimatley plannign my first "major" off-road trip to NM for later this year.

I think we all have '06 models... I'm actually heading to New Mexico in June to see family. Not sure if I will be in the 4R or my wife's sorento. If I take mine you can bet I will be hitting the hills in las cruces with my cousin (he has a 70's bronco)

All 06's eh...that is pretty cool. Not sure about Houston or Dallas. It was actually tough to get a 4wd in S.A.. Did notice it was a lot easier in Austin tho.

I will be headin mostly to the Gila Wilderness near Silver City. Although I cant resist stopping by Las Cruces since they have some pretty nice off-roadin day trails.

Any favorite areas to hit in central texas for long trails? I know of a few parks near Austin and East of Dallas if i am not mistaken (I am often mistaken).
