Hoping to get a Trail Premium in June or July. I can't decide on the color. Every dealer near me only has a couple of 4runners and most are the same colors. I'd like to see them all side by side to make my choice.
First post here, I've been lurking for about a month, learning some great tips.
I'm also hoping to find some places to wheel in Ohio. I'm about 40 minutes south of Cleveland, so I'm jealous of all the pics the members out west are posting.
I'm sure I'll find some other members near me to gain some local knowledge.

Hello everyone, I trust this post finds you all well. I come to the site with hat in hand asking for your help… I recently purchased a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner 4 cyl 2WD with 253K miles which is still running like a champ. It has had a complete brake rebuild and new A/C system installed.
My plan is to convert this vehicle into a “Redneck RV” and use it for a solo trip to Alaska. I have started that transformation by adding my own MACO paint job and am working on the sleeping platform and storage areas for the back. My questions are pretty much functional in nature but I have not been able to crack the nut… If I may?
1. The vehicle was sold to me with one key only. No key FOB was provided at all. It does have electric door locks and they function properly from the inside and when I insert the key into the door lock. Can anyone advise on how I can tell if it is equipped with remote open/close capability? I realize this is not a life or death item but it would be nice to have. :wtf:
2. In the same vein I noticed a security system siren mounted inside of the engine compartment on the driver’s side. I have not been able to locate the actual alarm sensor inside of the vehicle. My most recent Toyota had the alarm sensor/control unit mounted =under the driver’s seat. Unfortunately I do not see a control unit under the driver’s seat nor anywhere else in the vehicle. It does have the cheesy red LED light mount on the driver’s side dash. Any ideas on where the alarm control unit maybe mounted? :wtf:

The key fob is easy to come by but first to find out what fob is needed for your rig go to a Toyota dealership give them your vin and they can tell you what model fob is needed ...just act like your gonna order one through them.
Second the sensor is actuall up in between the two driver side fender panels right around the bottom area of your windshield but off in the fender side.

Thanks man. right now the new truck is giving me a headache.
less than 500 miles, some person already scuffed it what appears to be a shopping cart, when i was out doing errands.
now, i realized my 16 4runner has a lurch like someone tapped my rear bumper. it makes me look back to make sure nobody hit me. I've read people posting about this issue but haven't read anyone saying this issue on the newer 14-16 trucks. sigh

That sucks man, take it back to the dealer. I had to take mine back for squeaky seats, but it was a quick fix and it's been good ever since.
