Hello...I just have one question...

I just bought a 95 4Runner a couple of days ago and yesterday a little red light above the dash light dimmer switch came on and has stayed on. What is this light? There is no markings of anykind to indicate what it is.

any help would be appreciated...

thanks

Tammy

No, I don't have my digital camera with me right now. The light is to the left of the steering wheel just above the dash light dimmer knob.

It really has me wondering what it could be. It stays on even when the vehicle is turned off.

I will get my camera later and take a pic and post it.

thanks

I'm interested to see the pic's especially since you say they stay on when the truck is off.

btw welcome to the board!

Here is a picture of the light.

No I don't have the owners manual.

Little red light

That is an LED light and is probably for an aftermarket alarm or starter disable. Did you get a remote with your keys? If not I wouldn`t worry about it. Just put some black electrical tape on it until you can get some further information. This light could be removed or disconnected if it bothers you. If you want to keep the alarm/starter disable you need to find out where the wires from the light goes. The wires should go to a box of some sort under the dash. From there you can find out the manufacturer of the unit and order a remote for it. The remote will have to be programmed. I hope I helped out.

Thanks for the help!! It is greatly appreciated.

I didn't get a remote with the truck. I will have to check it out and order one.

Thanks again

Tammy

Yes aftermarket alarm or fake. You must snoop around under your dash or in the engine compartment.

BTW very clean truck!

welcome to the family:D

That is either an aftermarket alarm, or someone wired an LED to make it look like there is an alarm.

You may want to check under the hood, see if there is a siren, you can also look on the inside of your steering column for an alarm box...

Let me know what you find :D

No...No... you were just trying to be helpful.

thats what makes this place so nice:D

After seeing that I was going to post and tell you it's part of an after market alarm unit: but many told you that already. :D

Don,t know for sure, what it,s for but would say its after market something, my 95 does not have light there ,owners manuel does not say there should be light there.so I would say it,s for something added on,? maybe? couldbe? mightbe? Ithink? or maybe I don,t? :artist::) :)

Thank you everybody...you are all very helpful.

There is no siren that I could find.

It doesn't really matter now...I have bigger problems!! A blown head gasket!! It has been going thru water and yesterday there was steam coming out of the exhaust! No water in the oil. My husband is calling the dealership I got it from. We will see how they stand by their vehicles.

Sorry ,to hear about your 4 runner,I too just bougth my 4runner about 3 wks ago, mine is also a 95 3.0 I had read about the H.G. recall so before I bougth it I went to local TOY. dealer to check if my runner was on recall list for H.G. they ran vin# and said it was not on list . You might want to have TOY. dealer run your vin. and if it is on recall list TOY. will pay to fix. Let us know how it turns out .
