New 4runner owner. Smoke tail lights, Cooper tires,

Hi, i just recently purchased an 2005 sport edition V8 4WD 4Runner.

On the first day i replaced every bulb inside and out with Hyper white ones and added H.I.D.s on the headlight/fog lights

I just smoked out the tail lights last night and snap a few quick pics.

The tail light was a pain in the a$$.. if you use a blow dryer on high heat it'll stretch lot but its still hard because of the shape of the pre-cut film.

If i could go back and redo it it'd pay the extra money and order 2 big sheets, take off the tail light, heat up the film, wrap it up really good, then trim the edges.

I have some film left over from doing my Audi so i'm going to use it on the 3rd brake light. Just need to find some time to take it off and do it right. Work takes up all my time so its hard.

I used the dark 35%... and the light shines through good, even in bright sun light.

even when its parked you can see the red coming though a little at some angles. I like the way it came out.

We've also used the film on headlights and i really don't suggest doing it because you can't see anything at night. Thats why i have 12,000 high beams on my audi.
Also, if you have chrome housing headlights with the smoke film it'll look yellowy because of the sun light feflecting back at you.
It came out good on my Audi because i have black housing head lights but it still sucks that i can't see at night.

My FX45 is blue film headlight and painted taillights (Color match paint thined out and spayed in light layers.

I don't think it's wise to attract unwanted attention by tinting my tail lights when I have limo tint on all of my windows, now that I think about it. :bash:

35% aint too bad.. thats the same percentage i have on my G and it looks clean.. i like the film on the FX headlights..

How was the fitment of the film on your 4runner? was it hard to put it on? i was sweating like a pig when i did my G but then again it had a lot more curviness so it was harder, i tried doing the 4runner which wasn't too bad, but the film i got was short on both ends unless i was doing something wrong.. maybe i should just buy a whole film and cut it myself instead of the pre cut

i see.. now that you saw that black FX you figured huh.. but its gonna look sick man if you did your tails and blacked out your headlights

It seemed to come up short in a lot of spots so i had to heat it up real good and stretch it the best i could. Thats why i think using a whole sheet with the tail light off and a heat gun would be the best way.

If you can spare some time would you mind shooting a pic of the rear lights lit up in the dark? Stand 30ft back possibly. Maybe even with and without the brake lights lit up. I would appreciate it.

Got my new tires on today. it was late so we kind of just slapped them on. I'll have it cleaned up and try to snap some shot tomorrow. I'm still trying to figure out if i want a 2/1 lift or a 3/2 lift.

You are really making me consider tinting my tail lights. I just can't decide if I have the balls to draw attention to myself from behind when I have limo tint all around.

I did the same to mine, I got the pre cut kit from sticker city as well. Definitly buy the sheets and cut to fit or just go to the tint shop and have the pros do it. The pre cut kit is so small and you have to stretch it alot. My drivers side taillight got shrunk and now I have to redo it. I tried to line up one side and stretch it over, but it ended up peeling back and bubbling because it was cold at night and the material was stretched too much on one side to hold. I am going to just take it to the tint shop and have them do it, that way they can cut out the part that covers the reverse light. If you do it yourself buy the bulk kit and make sure to wrap the tint completely around the light instead of trimming it at the edges.

Can a regular tint shop do tail lights? I thought regular tint was only meant for inside, and not able to handle weather conditions?

Window tint wont stick to plastic and will not stretch enough to tint the tail light. It also scratches very easily. The overlays we use can actually protect your headlight at highway speed from rocks up to 1 inch in diameter. You're better off going to a car graphics place to get it put on because its a similar material to what they use to put on graphics. They heat, stretch, and trim the graphics to fit just like you would need to do to the tail light. The smoke film is just slightly thicker but that shouldn't be much of an issue. Most of the companies that sells smoke overlays for cars use the same machine made for cutting graphics.

there's actually a graphics shop on north side here in Houston that does overlay headlights or taillights for any car.

Good choice Josh, I would reccomend doing it your runner would look so sick. I like everything murdered out. I miss having a black truck, just dont miss washing it every other day (Seattle rain) and seeing how many new scratches I had from off roading. If you drive with your parking lights on, your taillights will still light up red, I'm thinking/hoping this will keep me from getting pulled over considering you can still see red.
