New 4runner owner with a question

I bought my new 2006 4runner sport about a month ago and took it off road for the first time today....nothing major, just some pretty muddy forest service roads but I put it into 4wd just to try it out. As I was driving I noticed all these intermittent clicking sounds, sometimes coming from the left side of the vehicle and sometimes from the right. No lights on the dash came on to indicate lost traction. I'm not sure if this is something I need to be worried about? Anyone know what this might be? I did a search on this forum but couldn't really find an answer. Thanks in advance for any help!

BTW these forums are great...been browsing for awhile and have found some great info on my new nav system!!

That was either the VSC kicking in, or the electronic anti-slip. The VSC is turned off with locking the center diff. The steady application of the throttle will allow the electronic wizards to better control the wheel spin. Better yet, when the wheels are spinning, floor the throttle. Throw some roost all over the place.
