New 4Runner owner...

Picked up my new 4Runner this past Tuesday, it's a Sport 4WD V6 in Shadow Mica color. With an average of 19.6MPG (2WD) for the past 5 days after my first fuel tank it's only 2 miles lower then my Maxima and it's sipping regular unleaded instead of premium. :biggrin2:

I was reading the manual and it stated that I needed to drive the vehicle in 4WD mode every month for 10 miles in order to keep the gears lubricated, the dealer didn't mention anything about this when I got the vehicle on Tuesday. Can someone tell me if this is something that needs to be done? Given that it is summer I would not have even thought of putting the vehicle in 4WD until winter later in the year.

Just follow the manual and get in the 10 miles each month to keep the front end components lubricated. The 4Runner has a center differential, so it can be operated on any surface in 4WD (4H) all day long.

Shadow Mica was not an easy color to find around the Northeast area, if there was one they were usually the Limited trim (price was above what I was really looking to spend). When I found this Sport edition with most of the equipment that I was looking for (lacked 115V power point and Homelink) I decided to buy it before someone else did.

From what I have read in this forum I can always add the Homelink later myself (assuming the wiring is already there) and the 115V power point would be nice to have but not a real necessity (at this time).

In New Jersey, it is almost impossible to find a Sport with the 115V outlet and Homelink. Almost all of the Sports are shipped to this region with the same configurations. You can install the Homelink by yourself in 5 minutes. You just have to order the overhead console, snap out the old (hardest part), and finally put in the new part. I did this myself and it was a cinch. Just do a search for Homelink if you need part numbers and places to buy the part.

Sweet ride!! We've had ours for a few months now and love it more every day. Ours is Shadow Mica too, though my sticker said Galactic Grey lol. Either way it's an awesoem color, just the right amount of metallic shimmer in the sun when it's all cleaned up and waxed. Didnt really want that color when we were looking, I really wanted the deep blue color, but the deal was too good on this one and color was a secondary concern once price took over lol. Even so, we love it so it's all good.

And Homelink is easy to add, you just need to order the console with homelink in your interior color code, pop out the old console and unhook it, connect your new console, and pop it in. Sunroof place did mine when I had my sunroof installed so I didnt actually get to see it out of the vehicle but others have done it and said it's easy as pie.
