I actually get such bad gas mileage in my tundra I refuse to figure out what it gets. It does have 10 ply 33 all terrains on it so that didn't help. It's actually so bad that I won't do a 3 inch lift it and put 35s on it even though that is so good looking to me. I won't even push the button to look at my mileage. I think I average 12-14 city. My 4runner with 265/70/17 all terrains and leveled is averaging 18.7 combined (90% city). That's with my wife typically driving it. She hates to drive the tundra because she says it's hard to park. But I'm stealing the 4runner tomorrow to go fishing!

I would go with toyota. I was ready to buy a 2013 silverado, but I researched the hell out of it online, and I did not want to risk the amount of money it would take to get a new truck on something that might give me trouble. Yes, lots of people swear by gmc and they do have some nice styles, but so many guys I talked to had serious, expensive issues with their gm's over the long term. One coworker of mine was a journeyman auto tech for gm for 10 years, and he told me he would never buy a gm. He did tell me that "4runners are legendary." These are all opinions, but that was what I based my choice on and I have no regrets. I love the look of the 2014 tundra, and part of me wishes I bought one over the t4r. On the other hand, I don't tow anything and wouldn't use a truck bed too often, and the fuel economy is definitely going to be better in the t4r. I wanted a 4x4 vehicle that could go anywhere, has good resale value, and is known to last for 20 years... On a side note, I think toyota designs age better than American designs. Again, just my opinion, but compare a 2000 gm vs a 2000 toyota. I find gm/dodge/ford tend to go for trendier design styling, and change it pretty frequently. Whereas most Japanese styles are more conservative, but will look better if you intend to keep the vehicle for many years. I know some guys who just buy a new truck every few years and get rid of the old one, they just want the newest trendy truck, if that was me I wouldn't have a problem going with gm.

Thanks actually 12 to 14 doesn't scare me. It is not great but for a truck with 381hp that ain't too bad.

Every 3 years when trade in time rolls around I have the same discussion with myself, and can never justify owning a pickup. Go test drive a 14'LE in BP, it has a lot of improvements with the refresh, and worth dropping the 40K+.

I now know I am not the only one thinking about a truck. If money grew on trees I would have a BP limited with the redwood interior. I am just not ready to nor do I want to spend 44K on my next truck. But you do have one sharp rig, I do still like my 2013 BP SR5. I just need to decide if I want two 4Runners or a 4Runner and a Tundra. BTW my budget is 35 but certainly no more than 40K.

Let one of the Ponchos go and get the LE BP, as life is short. I get the GM love though, I once owned a 66' Bonneville 389 2 door Coupe, a 70' Lemans, a 72' Chevelle "Heavy Chevy", and several K10 pick ups and Blazers through out the 70's and 80's, they were all big time American Iron from the General, and we loved them all, but that was the past, we can cling to it, but we can't go back.

For example, I vote 4Runner.

I can't let any of them go... Especially not the Bonneville... Good idea but that is not going to happen. I will have to stick to my 35K to 40K max.

If you already have a newer 4runner why are you considering another one versus a Tundra which would give you so much more versatility with the bed? Granted you may not have a daily use for a bed but when you do you will be glad you have the Tundra. I am no paint expert but I do recall some conversations about super white paint on Tundratalk. PM Brockeverly over there he has a white Tundra and used to have a blizzard pearl 5th gen. He may be very helpful in your decision. Good luck.

And a 2011 4runner sr5 with leather and sunroof
Both are great vehicles. I actually like the tundra more, as it has more power and has more options then my t4r.
But there are times when my t4r comes in handy. Recent trips upstate for one. I have my luggage or gear stored in the back secured bc it's not sitting in a bed.
Both trucks are great in the snow, both are running Goodyear wrangler duratracs. The t4r has the edge though with a smaller wheel base and turning radius.
The tundra is my do everything vehicle though. I've helped friends move furniture with it, it's been on shooting trips from mew York to Texas. It's towed motorcycles from track to track with room to spare.
It really depends what you need. And only you can make that decision.

Full Sized GM, Tundra, 4Runner, Highlander, Rav4. Owned and driven all with extensive miles. Highlander/Rav4 are the quintessential SUV. Good for paved road running, limited Off-road. Some might have a different Opinion here, but this is based on many miles in both. 4Runner as stated in BOF and an excellent all around vehicle. Great Off-Road and good on Road. Reliability in the six me or Family owns is great. The Tundra vs. full sized GM........GM builds a good full sized truck, but the Tundra is a beast. Drive one to really get the feeling as its bigger then it looks.....why? Because it drives so well and handles great on the road and Off Road.
So it boils to what you want to pay out and I would go with reliability and longevity.

I know it is silly to ask this question on a 4Runner forum. I was just hoping for owners of both to chime in. I like both for different reasons.
Thank you sir for the well thought out response. The reason I am in considering another 4Runner is for several reasons really...
1. Parking/Garage Space - I have a 2.5 car garage that I fit three vehicles in. When the Bonneville is away in winter storage not at my house I need this to fit in the garage. A Tundra will fit on the one side but it will be tight.
2. Intended usage will really be for driving 10 miles round trip to work in ANY weather condition Iowa can throw at her. You as well as I know it was a fun one this year.
3. Dry storage a truck bed is handy no doubt however most of the time I need dry storage more.
4. I really don't need 381hp the 4.0 on the 4Runner has enough oomph for me. Which brings me to fuel economy I have fully accepted the fact a 5.7L Tundra will get 10 mpg in town. I just don't want single digits. This winter my 4Runner went from nearly 16 in the fall to almost 12 this winter. I really would prefer to do better than like 8. Furthermore I won't be towing more than 3 or 4 thousand pounds. I did figure if you get the 4.6 in the Tundra you might as well get the 5.7 because you only loose 1 mpg city/highway.
Having said that I am still really drawn to the Tundra but don't want to be everyone's moving service either. I like my vehicles to look like Cadillac's so the last thing I will be doing is putting rocks and bricks in my bed.
Anyways I hope that helps explain my madness.
Your reasoning about longevity is the reason I am leaning to a Toyota. GM has crazy pricing on the new trucks. Once they start running 6 or 7 grand off invoice plus my GM card I could be persuaded. Until then not happening. Toyota is looking like the winner hear. Plus I can't get the big 6.2 in the mid-level trims. Whereas on an SR5 Tundra you can get the 5.7.
