New 4Runner with Nitto Ridge Grappler tires

I got a new 2022 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium with the XP Predator Package. It came standard with Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. Are these tires any good? I've never heard of Nitto until now. A month from now, I've got to drive it 2,000 miles, mostly highway miles, and am wondering about the tires. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Nitto is actually a quality tire, and that particular tire is very popular in the Toyota and Jeep community with people that off-road as well as do a lot of pavement driving.

I would be very happy if those had come on my 4Runner, it's actually a fairly expensive tire, and it's superior to anything that Toyota offers from the factory.

Before my interest in off-roading, it was "hot-rodding." Nitto was the ubiquitous, high quality, go-to drag radial tire. When I started looking at 4Runners, I was surprised to find out that not only did Nitto manufacture all-terrain tires, but they came standard on TRD wheels. My '19 has the Terra Grapplers and I'm pretty happy with them. I have put them through some pretty extreme conditions, and they performed exceptionally well. Relatively quiet on pavement as well. I actually plan on going to the Ridge Grapplers when these wear out.

I was trying to find Ridge Grapplers when it was tire upgrade time, but they were nowhere to be found, so I ended up with Wildpeaks. I had the Nittos on my Expedition and they were great all around tires.

Same here, could not find the Grapplers and went with the Toyo ATIIIs. Maybe Toyota bought them all?

Since they come standard on the XP Predator package, Toyota may very well have bought them all (or most of them).

XP Predator Package? That sounds like one of SE Toyota Distributors "custom packages."

Wouldn't shock me if they bought up a bunch of the tires in the region. A lot of those SE packages are 3rd party bolt-ons done at the port facility, SE region is like it's own world when it comes to Toyota operations...

I did this today, actually, on my 2019. I concluded after a lot of research that the 275/70/R17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers in a 10-ply LT tire would suit my TRD Pro well… I’m extremely impressed so far, and I absolutely love how they look.

100% true… I’d suggest to anyone that’s planning on changing anything to order it no-frills, no XP, no side steps, no anything exterior bolt on from Toyota. Not even weather mats, as WeatherTech makes them better, and there are others that are cheaper, not name brand, that perform as well as WeatherTech.

The Toyota hood/bug deflector is definitely good though.

Ridge grapplers are an awesome all terrain tire for pavement driving. Supringly quiet and very comfortable ride for sure. The fact that these come on the XP predator package is a nice touch. I'm sure these tires will preform well for offroad and snow driving as well.

I'm biased towards Duratracs for anything offroad and snow. But I do admit, they are noisy and don't handle well in the rain.

Mine lasted 45K miles! I did admittedly change out for Mickey Thompsons which are louder, get 1mpg less and are better off road. I may return to them based on how far my current tires make it.

Exactly. I'm new to the T4R forum and have a 2019 4Runner SR5. It was a Toyota-Certified pre-owned with 25k miles. It currently runs the original Bridgestone tires. I came here wondering about people's opinions here regarding Nitto Tires and specifically the Nitto Recon Grappler A/T.
I do 85% city, 15% highway driving (Boston MA area); believe me, the old streets around here are a mess and it's like off-roading. Between poorly patched potholes, and the occasional cobblestone roads, tires take a beating.
I bought the car 4 months ago and love it. I put around 4k miles on it and started shopping for tires, hence wondering about the Recon Grappler A/T's.
Any information/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Nittos are good tires and tend to last fairly well, especially on road. I've had Terra, Trail, and Ridge Grapplers, they've all performed well on the vehicles that they were installed. I'm currently at 35K on a set of 285/70 C load Ridge Grapplers and while they have increased some in noise (still not bad), they have a good amount of tread left.

I would likely purchase at Costco (free rotations without "waiting" as I'm shopping there anyway). My Costco recommends one of these three (and I'd just wait for the $100 rebate so all are priced comparably at $1,000 for a set all in/installed) - stock size 265-60-R18:

BFG Trail-Terrain
BFS Alenza AS Ultra
Mich Defender LTX MS2

Any opinions on these three?
Or, maybe go to Discount Tire instead for something significantly better?

Definitely a lot of threads on this if you search around. Cannot go wrong with a Michelin Defender LTX from everything I've heard for an on-road tire with good all season capability.

Personally I'd avoid Bridgestone. I've never been particularly happy with their tires (had a set of them awhile back on an Infiniti) and they're often on the pricey side.

Good article comparing the Recon Grappler to the Ridge Grappler. I've had the Ridge Grappler on my truck for years (on my 2nd set) with no issues, it's been a great tire. Much better than the Terra Grappler in my opinion.

Nitto Ridge Grapplers on sale

265 70R17 Nitto grappler on sale at tire rack. 163 per.
Looks like a close out. I have the these on my 5th gen TRD and absolutely love them.
Look aggressive but they are actually a great road tire.
My off pavement action is central Florida sand, grass pastures with turquoise holes everywhere.
I didn’t have any issues on wet pavement as other people described. However I don’t drive aggressively. They are not aggressive enough for heavy mud or deep sand.
Tow a small boat and horse trailer no issues. Have about 45k on them and they probably are close to replacing.
Might pull the trigger but I’m thinking a small lift and bigger wheels/tires.
