New 4th gen owner I have a possible trans mission problem?

New 4th gen owner. I think Ihave a possible transmission problem?

I recently purchased a 2005 v6 4runner sport with 111,000 miles on it. at first it drove fine, but after a little while I have begun to notice that when I am coasting under 40 mph the vehicle will seem to downshift a little bit early and you can feel the truck itself slow down due to the early downshift. I have also noticed that if my speed is fluctuating while going under 40 and I give it a little gas it seems to vibrate in the peddle until I get the rpms above 1k. I have yet to check the transmission fluid, but I just got rid of a clunker and am scared I got another one.

Grease your zerks on your drive shaft and add more tranny fluid...

Not sure if this would cause your issue or not. Is the shift in "4" or "D"?.. When I 1st drove the truck (& wife STILL does it) I moved the shift into 4 instead of D by mistake thinking that was the proper shift location.

It's in D. the green D on the dash is illuminated while driving

Maybe the computer is remembering the previous owner's driving habits. Try resetting it (unplug the battery for a few minutes), and see if that helps.

If not, maybe a transmission flush/replace the tranny fluid.

if none of the above work spend the money and take it to a sop that only does transmissions. It is well worth the money.
would you pay a plumber to work on your laptop?

Normal.

Tranny downshifts by itself from the factory. It is a Toyota "feature".

Concur; especially when speed falls to around 32-35 mph. But at vehicle's age and mileage, it probably wouldn't hurt to get a tranny fluid exchange done anyway (unless you can find evidence that it has already been done).

thanks for the info everybody. I greased up the U-joints and plan on changing the transmission fluid when I get paid. the downshifting thing was getting me a little bit worried, now all I need to do is figure out why i'm getting the vibrations while pressing the gas at that "sweet spot". I hope it is just the fluid

These transmissions can feel a little quirky but are very robust.

Mine has done this since day one. The good news is, everything else about the transmission is like day one also.

Mine does it too, but not the pedal vibration you're talking about. That could be the engine sparkplugs needing replaced, unless you can tell, or have proof they were recently changed. That's what it sounds like to me, but it could be the transmission.
