Anyone have a suggestion for a non-corrosive sealant for the install?


Also, watching the install video, it doesn’t appear any rubber gaskets or aluminum spacers are required between the weather channel and the mounting feet?

I can't speak for spacers or gaskets on the Victory rack but I strongly advise against using any permanent sealants, especially hardware-store variety silicone sealants. They themselves are not often inherently corrosive, but they can harden and retract due to UV exposure.

The official install video applying giant gobs of ultra black RTV demonstrates a huge ****ing lack of understanding of how sealants work (black RTV is meant for sealing valve covers and oil pans, not for your roof rack holes). It also makes any removal nearly impossible to reseal unless you scrape all that gunk out to start fresh. But they'll already have your money by the time that stuff dries up and your gutters are full of water. Watching that video actually made me mad.

I recommend butyl rubber sealant and UV/weather resistant rubber washers in my Ecotechne rack install here:

It's a dynamic seal (meaning that it never dries up) and easy to remove. If you can make these work, I recommend it over smearing silicone all over your roof.

Did you use the 3/8 silicone washers underneath and on top of the brackets?

3/8" under the brackets (around the plastic tubes) and 5/16" on top (around the bolts). It's all detailed in the thread.

I have not installed a lightbar fairing on mine. Here is a closer photo of the cutout without a lightbar on a Tacoma. Check out the Tacoma rack install video for the cutout fairing/lightbar install. Is there something specific you are looking for?

If you can take a pic at like a 45 degree angle, that would be perfect. If you take a look at the Cali Raised roof rack, they have a wind deflector that swivels.... it's down when using the light and creates a clean platform look. Then you untighten the thumb screws and raise the plate to cover the lights when not in use and to help deflect the air. I'm wondering if there is enough area for me to add a plate and hinges to do something like this.

Our mounts put the light much closer to the fairing so there is not much need for an extra deflector.
