New 5th Gen TE owner in DC/VA!

Been lurking here for a while and admiring everyone's rigs...just relocated back to the Northern VA/DC area from the Caribbean, where I'd been working on a project for the past 18 months. Within 24 hours of moving back to DC (Tuesday), I was lucky enough to find a 2010 black TE with about 15K on the clock for a great price about 300 miles away (Toyota Certified too!). 2 days after seeing the truck on Autotrader I flew out and drove it home:banana:

So far I am loving the truck, but having to get used to the size of it. I've got the full Husky floor mat set on order and should be installing Duratracs or General Grabber AT2's in the next 2 weeks. Otherwise I think it'll stay stock for a while (barely clears the ceiling of my parking deck as it is now...)

I'll post up some pics over the weekend after I have a chance to get it out on the sand in the Outer Banks.

Sweet! I think you will love it. Lets see some pictures. Interested in what kind of deal you got on it since I have seen very many used 5th gens let alone a TE. I checked out a couple used ones but they were all within a thousand or two of what I could buy new...

Another NOVA/DC owner here. Work at the Pentagon.....we should do a M&G sometime and start a 4Runner club in the area.

I would be into that. Especially if folks would be into getting west of town and doing some trails/outdoor stuff west of the city (GW National Forest, etc.)
 
Took the 4runner out on the beach at Oregon Inlet in the OBX over Thanksgiving. I was thrilled with the truck's performance. Aired down to 20 psi, kicked it in 4-hi, used the terrain select, and enjoyed very drama-free performance through soft, rutted sand.

Just put in Husky Floor liners today and ordered Duratracs that should be on by next weekend! Also very much considering sliders and Mojave wheels...getting expensive!

I lived in that part of the country for 10 years. Other than the beach where do you off road that a trail edition would be needed?. I did not see very much of road opportunity around there that was legal. Nothing against the trail edition. Where I live in the desert now a trail edtion would work great. Just curious. In fact I took a trip across the U.S. this summer and did not see much off road opportunities other than the western states. Even in Texas most of the land is private and not open to off road use. Here in the desert you can go about any place you want on many acres of BLM land.

You are correct in that there are not a ton of places in the immediate area to flex the abilities of the truck. To do that, the closest areas are 2 or so hours west of town in the GW National Forest as far as I know (I'll be there over New Years).

Realistically, the truck will see true off-road use 15 times per year or so; the decision to get a Trail Edition was truly a "want" versus a "need", or even a "practical". I guess the practical folks get Priuses?:)

LOL@ air freshener. Excited, I think I've slept two hours. I have to strike while the iron is hot, My wife can be fickle. I'm sure I'll be getting those cards that are blank inside for the next few Christmases. :peace:
 
265/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs (Load range C) are on! Sorry for the crappy pics... Super pleased with the look of these tires, and hope to get the truck off road with them in the next couple of weeks! A little more road noise, but they ride nice and feel just as planted as the stockers.

Also in the area

I also have a Trail Edition and live in Northern VA... any progress on a club or plans for Peters Mill Run?

Sweet! I work in the PNT, too. Well, actually, I work in Crystal City - soon to be Mark Center, but my badge says PNT! Fancy. Seems like there are a bunch of us on this forum...
 
Guys,

I don't have any specific club plans, but have been out and about in the 4runner over the past couple of months (Green Ridge State Forest in MD twice, GWNF twice). I am also planning on going to the Southeast Overland Expo in Asheville NC in June and probably to Rausch Creek in May (and any other time I get away). I usually post up my offroading plans in the regional section so y'all should check there and post up!
