New '93 4Runner, what now?

I just purchased a '93 4Runner with 142k miles, v6, 4wd, 5sp. I've made an appointment with Toyota for Monday morning to get the CV boots replaced (and probably the CV joints also).

I got new plugs, wires, oil, filter, air filter and fuel filter to install this weekend. Any other ideas of what else I should do before starting to use it on a daily basis?

btw - Where do I find the fuel filter?

I'm picking it up today from Toyota. I had them replace the timing chain, they said the valve covers were leaking like crazy, so they fixed that, did a rear brake service and overall they said I got a nice ride for the year and mileage.

They won't do a alignment until I get new tires, they said these are pretty messed up, so I plan to go get some highway tread tires today.

Alignment tomorrow.
 
I tried tonight, but the stinkin' 14mm fuel line nuts won't move. I've sprayed them with WD-40 and will let them sit over night to soke in. I don't want to break anything... I'll give it another shot in the morning.
 
If the WD-40 doesn't help, try a penetrating oil. (WD-40 is a NASA-developed Water Displacer, not a lubricant...)

I agree.

Spray some penetrating oil on it over night give a little tug tight then loose they should come loose somewhat easy.
Are the fittings rusted?

they should not be that tight.

Ok everyone, I left the WD-40 on over night and they were still really tight, but thank God for my Dad. Even at 62, he's still a strong Dude. He got under there and broke them loose. We got it changed out, it's not that hard, just time consuming.

While we were under there, we checked the lubricant in the transfer case, transmission and rear differential. We couldn't see where to check the front differential. It looks like there is a sensor on the front of it that may need to come off and you could check it there. It looked like the previous owners had the drive shaft lubed (fresh lube slung up on the undercarriage).

Over all, for a $5,250 vehicle, everyone feels we got a pretty good deal.
 
Yeah, depending on the condition which you seem to be happy with, it seems like a good deal. Where did you buy it? (part of the country, dealership/private party) I got mine for 4900 (94 110k, with your same specs) but to my dismay, there was more rust than I would have hoped for. It was my first internet purchase though and the inspection company I sent gave me a really clean report so I just risked it. We had to deal with getting a new timing belt and replacing the front axels and some more, but those were the most costly. It wasn't really as a result of bad performance, just precaution. I'd rather deal with it now and start from a clean slate so to speak. All in all, this runners been about a 10000 dollar investment including everything from maintenance, comfort (sound, external lights, etc) and I'm finally completely at peace (4 months later). I expect her to last me another hundred and fifty k with the care I'll be giving her. (*knocks on wood*)
 
Where did you get the cool tube grill kit on the front? I'm trying to hunt down a chrome one for mine, but can't find one online. I would also like full length chrome tube step bars for the side, but I can't those either. If you have a '99 or newer they are everywhere.

I purchased mine from a private owner right here in Arizona. They go pretty quick here. My Dad was a Journeyman Mechanic with the local Electrical company here for 30 years and knows a thing or two about cars. He went along and said it was in good running order overall for the miles and the interior and outside was in great shape, no dents, no rust and no stains on the inside. I'm happy.

Cost so far:

Truck $5,000
Sound System: $1,200
Precautionary Items at Toyota: $1,400 (timing chain, CV boots, valve cover gaskets and brake job)
New Tires: $660 (it didn't need them, but it had knobbies and we wanted road tires)

So far I'm out about $8,300 and I'm pretty happy about it. I wouldn't have a problem driving it out of state on a trip if we needed to.
 
My brush guard came stock. I'd check with some wrecking yards around you, junk yards or whatever. I've found some cool parts there for seemingly cheap (runningboards, back bumper piece) and they even saved me the time and installed it real quick. I'm sure a grill guard wouldn't be hard to find if you look and the install is just bolts away.
 
Hokey Crap Dude, I just hadn't thought of that... DUHH! I've got a good little yard about 15min away I could check out. I'll have to give them a shot. They are a pull-it-yourself place.

(or the fact that I spent a few days in the Hospital last week with chest pains... ouch)
