"new" 95 T4R having gear problems

My grandmother died recently and left me her 95 T4R. It has 30000 miles on it. First of all I wanted to know if it needs to be greased or something because it has been sitting so long in her carport? What kind of maintance do you suggest? Also, I noticed today that it was having some problems shifting into 4th gear. It gets to about 55 mph, rpms at 3 and won't shift till you hit 60/65. All the other gears switch fine. Also, when going up a hill I pressed the gas petal all the way to the floor board and it didn't make a difference. I pushed it gently, but I expected it to rev up and gain speed....it did not. Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated!!!

What a find! Thats low miles. Any puddles under the car on the carport floor? Check the color of the trans fluid (should be pink) and make sure it has enough. I would also check the condition of the air filter (intake). It may just need to be driven. Also change the oil and filter. If it has the original owners manual in the glove box there should be good info on maintenance in that.

No puddles. When I got it I took it in to have all fluid levels, air filters and oil changed. They said everything looked good. I'm just worried that something is wrong from it sitting all these years, or the transmission is going out.

Sounds like an Auto Trans w/ the "Go baby Go!" Switch!!

For an automatic.

W/ or W/O 4wd engaged?? $WD drawn more rpm's to get to speed...

Is the ECT switch engaged, in other words, does the dash have the "ECT" light showing??

If "Yes" to both the above, the ECT is the power setting for the 340 tranny's, and will hold the solenoids shift points a bit more to get higher rpm's/torque before shifting, also as a result, cause your mileage to drop by 3-5mpg depending on ho much of a leadfoot you have.

The ECT on/off is just ahead og the center console, behind (towards you) the shifter. Up is "Off", down is "On".

Try switching it off and see how mileage and shift points are changed.

Thus the "Go Baby Go!!" reference. I'll roll down the road at cruising speed, to about 3000 rpm, then drop the switch, and roll up the rpm to pass, rather than running it in that all the time.
