I bought a new abs wheel speed sensor and managed to get the old one out old o-ring and all but when I try to push in the new one it won't slip in. I am afraid to use brute force but is there some method to installing this like using a torch to heat up the metal or shaving off some of the plastic? Any help/experience appreciated.

If it's just the o-ring that won't fit I would clean off some of the rust that's bound to have accumulated and use some silicone o-ring lube to get it in. If it's too big period you probably have the wrong sensor. Don't shave it down to fit it in.

Does the plastic part slip in and then get hung up on the oring? Clean up the bore with some fine emery cloth. Lube the sensor with some silicone lube spray. Twist it as it goes in.

Obviously not OEM. OEM is same cylinder shape top to bottom with the oring recessed in at the top . No protrusion out the bottom either just the two magnets also recessed in. Yeah I know the OEM is expensive ($170) Just sand that bore a bit and lube it up. If it still wont fit, I would take it back and try another AF brand.
Rather than sand the metal bore and get shavings inside the hole can I just sand the plastic?

Don't sand the metal bore, just don't. that has to seal to prevent moisture getting into the bearing and ruining it. I wouldn't shave the plastic down either for the same reason, just get yourself the right one, this one may not even reach down into the bore far enough to have te correct air gap with the reluctor tone ring which is crucial for abs function. You might get it in there just to discover that it Won't work.

Yeah, that's definitely not the right design for the ABS sensor. The tip doesn't look right either.
Since you haven't installed it, you should return it to the parts store. If at all possible, pull one you've got on there and take it in for comparison.

Perfectly fine to sand the bore with some fine emery cloth to clean up the stuff that build up on it from the inside. Being he's in NJ like myself, I guarantee there's a surface rust on the bore. Almost have to clean it up if you want to get the thing back in. I've had mine out numerous times and they wouldn't go back in unless I cleaned up the surface. You just don't crazy. Common sense really.

Thanks, took a while to sand it but I successfully installed. Lights are now off.
