New Antenna Suggestions

I was checking to see if anyone knows of an after market antenna (preferrably a black flexible one) that will screw onto the original factory post? I've replaced my electric powered one about 5 times now and looking for something more sturdier for off-roading. Thanks!

Where can u get it for $50? when i got mine from the dealership it was $100 for both parts. U need the non-motorized antenna part that goes under the fender and the antenna mast...

Where can u get it for $50? when i got mine from the dealership it was $100 for both parts. U need the non-motorized antenna part that goes under the fender and the antenna mast...

i got mine from the dealer as well paid about 50 or 60 and i didn't buy the taco antenna just used the silver antenna that came wit the lower portion

the prices in that link look like cost...or close to it....you'd never get that price walkin into a dealer askin for those part numbers.

For all you guys that have done this...did you HAVE to run the new antenna wire or can you just attatch it to existing?

Also...not that Ive looked...but are there any tricks to getting the fender plugs out?

na the tacoma unit comes with the wire

ok so when i was debating on ding this my cousin who has almost the exact same car but stock changed her antenna to the tacoma whip and my uncle cut the wire from the old one and combined the two.

When i did mine though i wanted it to have the best performance and as little static as possible so i tore out the old wire and threaded the new one through the hole and to the back of the radio (exactly how it looked before).

For all you guys that have done this...did you HAVE to run the new antenna wire or can you just attatch it to existing?

Also...not that Ive looked...but are there any tricks to getting the fender plugs out?

FYI

I did some digging today and found out that splicing into the existing wire can cause significant signal loss, so it looks like the full monty is in order regarding that.

I hate partial static...and I even more hate this stupid power antenna that refuses to extend and retract after it gets the slightest bump! Just put in a new one a week ago, bumped it on an overhead exit sign in a parking garage, and now my motor just turns and turns gridning on the teeth but doing nothing. Piss me off.

Ugh, so you have to wire it all the way to the back of the stereo? Ive had my entire interior torn apart twice now to install Clarion NX409 Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com and really dont want to do it again. But I do want to replace the stupid busted power antenna one of these days. There isnt a simpler solution? Im surprised you cant just connect it to the old wire.

Well I read something later today that said if you spliced there is something at Radio Shack that can make it okay - I presume a crimp.

But my new thought is an interior windshield amplified, and blanking out the exterior antenna hole.

Anybody ever blank out their antenna hole? Has that weird curve in it.
