I installed the same shocks on my 08 urban runner. amazing difference compared to the xreas. i put new fj coils on, installed airbags...WORLD of difference. good luck with the install. its not hard but always plan more time than expected. its takes a decent amount of leverage to get the new shocks in there if you are jacking up the front end at all. there are some REALLY good write ups on this site about doing the install. it really helped me have fun

Bilsteins are exciting. I put the rears in back in January. I was waiting until now to put the front on as I am ready to purchase tires. I was waiting so I didn't have to have it aligned twice. I'll be glad to get the fronts on with new Michilens. I couldn't tell a big difference with just the rears. Enjoy!

That would be my reco, unless your back shocks have high miles. Mine only had 30,000. Only takes about 30 minutes to install, so not a big deal either way. Best regards, Doug
kbeck would you mind being a little more specific on what the difference was compared to the XREAS? I really do like the ride in my 09 Sport4WD which also has the XREAS, but sure wouldn't want to pay the price to replace it. I'd really appreaciate any feedback on how the Bilstein shocks compare to the ride of the XREAS. Such as tighter turns or not....better over bumps, etc.

Bilstein Aftermarket shocks for Toyota trucks are mostly yellow. They are sold as OEM replacement shocks. The yellow shocks are also called as Bilstein HD(heavy duty). I hate the color too, but if you are familiar with Tacoma's, the OEM TRD shocks that comes originally with TRD Tacoma's are yellow.If I'm correct the 4th gen Trail Edition have those yellow shocks too.
Those SILVER stainless coated shocks are the Bilstein 5100 model. The front shocks are ride height adjustable, while the rear can support factory height and mild lift. Some special application Bilstein AM shocks are also different in color. But if you will buy a direct replacement Bilstein shocks...they are yellow,AFAIK.
If the 5100s are available for 3rd gens then youll get the Silver shocks.
The yellow Bilsteins are the heavy duty ones like borgzman said and the ones I have are The 5100 adjustable....
