New Bumper

[4Runner fun]

Ok, bought a 4xInnovations bumper awhile back and just finished up the last of the install.

For anyone asking...…..
I went back and forth with Adam for a few months, asking questions, looked at other options, asked more questions, then I finally ordered via a phone call.
it took three weeks to build, and a week to ship.

And that was what I was quoted when I ordered. Also during the build process there were some questions specific to my bumper, both on my side and theirs. the whole process went smoothly.

Bumper with light pockets and Hi-lift jack points
Swing away tire carrier with Hi-lift jack mount
and Dual NATO Steel Jerry cans.

For starters If anyone has this or has seen it you know, but for the rest this thing is a quality piece.
The bumper is a snug fit, and matches the lines of the truck well. The double shear swing out is solid and stout, even with my estimate of about 180 Lbs. mounted to it.

The mounting points, and frame are much more than this rig is rated for, you won't have any flex in the supports or hitch. the hitch and recovery points are setup to transfer load to the strongest point on both the bumper/hitch and frame.

I had a few mods done for my application,
Fit a 37" tire, cut the side "wings" back 4".
And carry two cans if needed, 12-14 MPG is optimistic in this rig.
By doing that it crowds the passenger tail light but with the bumper lights I solved that.

OK on to the pictures, They are relatively limited, I'm better at doing and not so great at documenting..... Hence no build thread in this truck.

Mock Up

The bumper is heavy, and the truck is tall, so even with the rear wheels off my jacks wouldn't reach. More than once I worried about having it land on me.

After getting everything installed I drove it a week in raw steel, making sure the truck and the bumper liked each other.
No creaks or groans, but fully loaded the tail steers the nose a little. It's allot of weight well behind the axle. This thing is so far from a stock 3rd gen, I wouldn't have the slightest idea how a coil sprung truck would ride.

I'm not running any sway bars at all. On a coil truck it would be a whole different animal.

Borderline over built for the truck, no fear of bending it up, that's for sure.

And on to lighting

I used the LED license plate bolts supplied by 4xInnovations to mount the plate. I spliced a 2prong rubber connector so I can pull it off to change the tire.

Then I spent the day drilling and fishing wire thru the swing out, Heat shrinking any place it passed steel. Then grommets and black RTV to seal it.

Moving on to the back-up/brake/ turn combos in the bumper.
I bought a trailer plug adapter that plugs into the factory harness, and converts a multi bulb system into a single 4 wire system, I also spliced into the harness to pick up the back-up lights inside the rear kick panel rather than at the light.

When you plug into harness you actually splice the back-up lights, so I spliced into that so I wasn't splicing into the trucks harness.

Cheap A$$ lights,
They will do what I want though, killer back-ups compared to stock, plus they add a brake/ turn/ E-Flasher. at drivers eye level. They are tight, so tight that I had to take the 4" grinder to them. I'm glad they were cheap. I also made brackets to mount them with.

Sorry about the light pictures, I'll get a shot in a dark location tonight, but in the back-up pic you can barely see the factory light in the top left.

And the stops are not bright but are at eyelevel to most cars.
