New CD Receiver for 2001 SR5

Am currently deployed and have just recently had a bunch of routine maintance work done on my 4Runner. Now I'd like to put a new double din and speakers in it and am looking for suggestions. It is my DD and I have a IPod and IPhone that I'll use in it. Thanks in advance.

I found an Eclipse AVN6620 for $260. Added on ipod controls and bluetooth for a total of under $350. It has everything. DVD/CD/Nav/iPod/Bluetooth. Plus since it's a nav unit made from the same company that makes the Toyota nav units, it's a direct plug and play.

lol when I was deployed my 4Runner was sitting in a storage lot on Coronado Island. How do you plan on replacing the stereo while on deployment?


I would suggest the *new* Kenwood Excelon X995. It is the flagship non-LCD deck. It has 110 s/n ratio, HD radio built in, and many other features. If you go with some of these LCD decks such as Pioneer or Jenson you will notice that they have a s/n ratio of 93-95 db vs the Excelon at 110 db and some of the Alpines at 105 db. If you are running to an amp with nice speakers you will notice this difference , if you aren't running an amp then it won't sound that great anyways - probably much better than stock though.

This thing looks awesome, too bad it's discontinued. Is there another brand that has all these features - DVD/CD, NAV, etc.?

I think that's why you can find them for a good price. That and Circuit City carried them, so when they went under, a lot of them were on the market without wiring harnesses (which is not necessary in our Runners).

Not sure on others in the same category. I'm sure there are plenty out there, but I think most units with Nav are around $1,000 or more. Too much in my opinion.

I have an older Pioneer double din unit (Pioneer of Canada - English - AVIC-F900BT - In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with DVD Playback and Built-In Bluetooth) and it fits in the stock location perfectly.

This isn't my truck, but you can see the nice fit.

That thing is awesome. I have been reconsidering my 1DIN and pocket because I never use the pocket. That unit has all of the features I would want in a new stereo. I Hope I can find something similar when the time comes.
