New coils/springs with new bilstein 5100's?

I have factory suspension and the daystar 2.5/1.5 spacers and love the way it looks but at 110,000 miles need a shock/strut replacement, so I just purchased Bilstein 5100's adj front and 5100's for the rear.

Should I be replacing the springs/coilovers? Are they Good up to 200k miles? My options with the bils 5100 installed:

1. Keep Factory coils and springs and keep the Daystar 1.5 in the rear, Sell front spacers

2. Buy Moog/toytec/OME/etc springs for front and/or rear and then do what to maintain rear ride height?

3. Buy FJ springs for front and/or rear and then lose the daystar kit altogether or would I need other spacers?

I am heavily leaning towards option 1, primarily based on cost and lack of knowledge for what I would do with the moog or FJ springs to maintain my current ride height.

Any help/advice would be very appreciated.

The new replacement springs would be a good option, chances are with new shocks and springs though youre going to end up higher than what you have with the daystar now

That would be OK with me, but why do you think I need new springs? Just because I am doing new shocks?

I'm sure someone else will chime in, but from the research I've done, it's because springs will lose their bounce and begin to sag eventually over the years/miles.

If you are on a budget, I would opt for tacoma or fjc front coils and set it on the 2.5" lift setting and for the rears either FJC coils plus spacer or some new lift coils. I find the oem coils too soft for lift applications.

I did the 5100's with new Moog springs. I figured if I had them apart I might as well go all the way. The Moog springs cost less than $100 shipped on Amazon.

you don't necessarily need to replace them when you do your shocks, but as others have mentioned, springs sag and lose load carrying ability over time and for the cost, it can't hurt to replace them

Well i got it all done this past weekend, took about 6hrs to do the whole job, not too bad with the right tools, the rear shocks were a ***** to get off though, had to cut them off.

I kept the factory springs and will see if they need to be replaced and how they do down the road, I figure i can always do it all again now that I know how to...The car rides really well and I like how much less body roll there is going around turns now.

I don't normally post pics but figure it is due time for one, right now the rear is sitting about 1" higher then the fronts, but it doesnt look like there is a forward rake. I have the 5100's adj at max height with stock springs up front and 5100's in the rear with stock spring and daystar 1.5 spacers:



Let me know what you think! I am getting the itch to do more work on my car now!! What do you recommend??

If you need to scratch the mod itch, poly sway bar bushings are inexpensive and easy (if everything goes right). A transmission cooler is another easy mod if you don't have a factory one, plus it gives a good excuse to replace your tranny fluid.

Thanks! Yeah I already did a tranny drain and fill and is the bushing upgrade really worth it? I just had the sway bar off when doing the install and they looked great. I am wondering if I should do something like new running boards or sliders, something to make it look a little meaner.

Is the bushing upgrade worth it? IDK. It makes a small but noticeable difference when cornering. My old ones weren't bad AFAIK but polyurethane is stiffer and that's what makes the difference I think. I'd say it's worth it if you enjoy working on your truck but don't expect miracles.

I've never done sliders but I like the way they look, I am not a welder so I'd be limited to bolt-ons for DIY. I'm not personally a fan of nerf bars. Maybe you could swap in some Limited running boards to get the lights?

I'm not sure how to make a truck look meaner - demon eye headlights? painted flames? truck nutz? :lmao: I remember a post where the guy said it wasn't until he put on his new bumper that he started getting comments at gas stations and such.

I like the Demon Eye headlights idea!

haha but seriously I agree I feel like the only way you turn heads is to do something drastic like new steel bumpers Big lights on top or soemething like that. Since I already did the wheels and tires, I feel like that leaves Sliders/Roofrack(which I wouldnt use)/Steel Bumpers/Spare Carrier/Etc...

Already have KN and went back to the factory exhaust, couldnt deal with the Gibson exhuast drone any longer....Would love to do other performance mods that make a difference but I feel like that only leaves a turbocharger or supercharger, headers alone arent worth the money...

Lately I have been trying to decide if I still like the bullbar or not...maybe I just need a new vehicle to start from scratch again...

You are fine with your original springs. They will compress slightly over time, but unless there is a reason to go with new, you wouldn't be gaining anything. I have seen Toyotas with 500k+ on them.

Well I have been driving on the bilstein and factory springs for about a week now and I absolutely love it!! One of my favorite mods to date, my favorite part is how tight it feels when I turn, my old shocks/struts caused so much damn body roll but now it is mostly eliminated. I am really happy i made this upgrade!

Just wanted to see if you were still running this setup and if so how it is going? I noticed my XREAS shocks were beginning to leak. I am looking to purchase the bilsteins and i only want a 2 Inch lift. I am looking to determine if i really need to get new springs/coils at this time or if it can wait? Thanks
