New duratracs - BEEFY!! But squishy

Just got some new rubber in 265 70 17 for my 06 4runner today. They look fantastic. Very beefy appearance which is what won me over in place of the bfg at.

Only complaint is they feel a little squishy when cornering or just changing lanes. I figure the minor increase in aide walls shouldn't have a large effect on this so what's up? I'm going to increase the psi and see if that helps. The tire place likely set them at a mild 32psi.

Anyone else had similar experience?

Didn't think I'd need E since i don't tow. Stock was C.

Airing up closer to 40psi will help with the Cs. I know your '06 is a tad heavier but even with my 3rd gen my Cs were a bit soft and recently aired them up from 35 to 40 stiffened them up a bit but still am watching how they are wearing which is good right now after 7000 miles.

i have the Es and really like them. seems like the complaints tend to be with the Cs... :shrug:

Hmm.... plan to have mines installed in the next day or two... I have "E"s too so I am already anticipating the more firm ride... I also have ICON resi's all around in preperation for future mods (bumpers, skids, etc.). We'll see how it goes, I'm about to stuff 295s under my ride!!!!

Thanks for the replies. It's too late to change tires to the Es but they don't seem as bad now. Maybe ice gotten used to it, or it wasn't the tires. Perhaps the drooped springs from the tire swap plus the larger tires had my alignment off until they settled back in again. I'm still gojng to try upping the psi to see if that firms it up for the pot holes any way.

I have a set of 35x12.5x17s on my Dodge Ram and they too are very soft or squishy feeling. I like these tires alot aside from that. They are pretty quite compared to the BFG MT and Toyo MTs I had on the truck prior. They also work extremely well when aired down. I have been stuck in thick mud several times out in my pasture with a steep hill in my way. I have aired down everytime to about 10 psi and just let the cummins crawl out every single time. Amazing what these tires can do for an all terrain tire.

Something else notable, I used to have a very noticable pull to the right with the Toyo MTs. I took it several times to have alingments and both times it was right on spec. Changed out to the Duratrac and problem solved.

The Duratrac's get very good reviews from those who like them. However where they have detractors, they are very strong on having concern about the same squishy feeling mentioned in this thread. Most of them are heavier truck owners such as 3/4 ton rigs and / or diesel engines. It really gets down to opinion about what ride you expect and like, the concern is that at least some of those who complain about the squishy sides are adamant they don't always feel safe when cornering. People might want to err on the side of caution and get E's unless, they're really more worried about rough ride and don't feel they'll be towing or carrying a heavier load such as after market bumpers.

Here's a close-up of the tread. I LOVE these tires. I had BFG's on before these and was very happy with those as well, but these just look the part with the same road manners and any other AT. These are 295/65/18 on some limited wheels.
