New exhaust setups..

I know it's a popular question, but as far as exhaust goes, what do most people have? I have a 97 4Runner and want to achieve a more aggressive tone- but I don't want to sound like a Dodge Ram 2500HD with a tailpipe I could put my dog into. As a college kid- I have no money. I couldn't throw out more than $200 on the dream. Thanks in advance. Any sound clips would be great.

I might have to email Jason about it directly, but do you know if that particular muffler can be bolted on, or does it HAVE to be welded on? I'd be pretty mad if I ended up not liking the tone of the muffler, and having to live with it- but I may have to. Thanks for the help. That video on Burtman's site definitely sounded great.

It most definitely has to be welded. Just make sure that when they cut your OEM off, they cut it with enough room that they can weld it back on. That's what I plan on doing so that I can take it off if I decide to sell it. You know what I mean?

The Maganaflow 24" (the 18" is a bit loud) muffler is a proven choice for good exhaust tone without being anything obnoxious. I'm getting a cat-back done with this muffler at a local exhaust shop for under $300.

$300? My local muffler shop will slice off the OEM and weld on the Vortex for $40.00. I then am paying $50 for them to custom make a pipe to convert it to send exhaust "straight out the rear" vs. behind the rear wheel like stock. They will also construct a 2nd dummy pipe like Jason Burtman's.

Guess I'm going with the Vortex on the next paycheck. I just hope it's not too loud. I guess I'll see for myself. In all reality- I was hoping to match my friend's 99 4Runner V6 with a Flowmaster muffler. I believe it's a 50. Thanks for all the help- I'll post a sound clip and video when I have this done next week.

Don't have a sound clip but there's a ton of people on yotatech that have the Magnaflow muffler (24"). I got mine a month ago. It has to be welded but total cost of muffler and install was $100. It has a throatier sound and def has more throttle response. I left everything else stock including the outlet. No bling for me.

BTW, I really like the muffler.

Vortex all the way, Jason B. is the man to go to. It's loud but not TOO loud, exactly what I was looking for. Ask the shop to let you keep your stock muffler and if you don't like it, just have them weld the stock muffler back on. I would also recommend running the exhaust straight out the back and getting a new tip to run along-side your trailer hitch, I love the look of mine.

I can post pics in a few days if you want.

Also, you can look over on YotaTech for a bunch of info on the Vortex or just contact Jason at www.burtmanindustries.com

i just had my friend who fabbed my turbo kit tig up my ehaust from the headers back. Didn't go with 3041SS as metal prices right now are HIGH!

2.5 inch all the way back, vband clamps, single magnaflow SS muffler. Its not what I am used to (v-8 sports car), but it definently sounds nice and mean!

I will try and post up sound clips when i get my new camera ;):

Vortex- DONE!

Finally had the cash to make the purchase.

Thanks again to Jason at www.burtmanindustries.com.

Well... Please don't keep us in suspense ...How does it sound? How loud did it end up being? 4x4Fink described it as "Loud but not to Loud"

I've listened to Jason B's link's half a dozen times now. Jason wouldn't post links unless they were high quality but does your sound compare to the links. The reason I ask is because I'm sure you always loose something by not hearing with the naked ear.

I'm going to do mine in the spring so I have time to decide. For me it's between the Vortex and Magnaflow. I've pretty much decided on the Vortex but still have concerns over if it will be to loud or not.
