I thought it would be cool to start a design thread for the new SRQ Fabrications filler panel light bars, that way you guys can follow along with the project and input ideas as Toby (@snivilous) and I move forward with the project.
I originally made a batch of 10 filler panel light bars and sold them through my site. Unlike what most do, I went a different route then the angle eye lights. I decided to mount a light bar into the panel and spend hours working on making it look as if it was meant to be there from the factory. While I felt this route ended up producing a great looking product, the time required to build a set was way too high and thus why I limited the build quantity to 10 pairs. Here are a few pictures of my old design:
In light of more and more people asking for me to make them a set, I decided it was time to look at making a more practical design that still maintained the factory and high quality look I wanted. After thinking it over for a while, I knew there really wasn't a way for me to use the stock filler panels and lower the build time. That is where this bad boy comes into play.
That's right, the new filler panels will be 3D printed and designed to fit into the factory location while also making it easy to mount a light bar into them. After a few hours of designing, Toby was able to recreate the OEM panel to be printed. We figured this would be the best route to start as then we can go about editing the drawing to hold a light bar and other lighting options.
I finally got time today to set up the printer for the first print. The piece shown below is the main piece of the stock filler panel. Currently the sides and tops of the panel are being printed. These pieces then connect together to create a complete filler piece. Once we test fit this panel and make sure it meets the quality we want it to be, we can go ahead and start working out how we want to mount the light bar into the panel. We hope to have a complete design out and ready for purchase soon!
