New Fog lights installation

I'm new to this forum, Hello everyone:)
I own 99 4runner, it has factory precut openings in the bumper which have just a dummy plate in it. Does anyone know any useful site where I can find info about step by step instruction how to wire and install fog lights. Do you recomend Hella Micro DE or any other kit?

id say get the hella de's from yellow and blue lighting

pretty sure those are the ones you need, and it comes with the wiring diagram and instructions. took me about half and hour to install, then it took me just a bit to aim them.
 
There are a number of places that sell the Hella Micro DE kit for the 4Runner. Try a Google search.

The kit I had was made for the 4Runners that were pre-wired for the fogs. You should have a connector hanging near the blanks. My installation included the bracket and lamp assembly onto the bumper, wiring under the steering column and installation of a rocker switch in the dash. Some kits include the switch on a new light switch stalk.

It probably took me about an hour.
 
Mine bumper doesn't have anything behind no plug no place to attach the brackets to. The existing opening dia is 2" with about 1/4" recess for the lamp front to sit in it. Do you know if the Hella lamp has that ridge on the front that it will rest on that recess?

welcome again, for factory switches go to a toyota dealer and they should have them ask for part #00550-35976 for the illuminated switch and part # PT297-89013-sw for non-illumniated. good luck and lets see some pics when youre done.

The link SilverBullet listed is for a kit that has everything you need.

It has custom brackets, lights, plugs into the existing plug that is already there. Also included is a relay that plugs into the fuse box (you have an empty slot for it) and the wiring and switch.

The instructions are very well done with steps and diagrams.

I have them and am in the middle of replacing my factory ones.
 
Sounds like you have a bumper for a 1999 SR5. This bumper comes with the outer surround and a knockout for the hole. The Hella DE kit we are recommending is designed specifically for adding fogs.

There is no bracket attached to the SR5 bumper. You need the one from the kit.

If you scroll down to the photo I posted in the Hella DE thread you can see how the bracket will mount.

Two more important questions:

== Do you have the wiring connector down low to feed into the fog lights?

==Regarding your fuse/relay box in the engine compartment. If you look at the top of the cover, it has a guide as what is what. When you open it, there needs to be a open slot for the relay.

Does your truck have these?

i wired in a remote switch i bought off ebay, just plug the wires off light into it, then ground to body , run hot wire to batt. now i can keep a fab on my key ring & turn lights on/off from outside vec. way easy, & nice way to scare would be vandles from across the parking lot.
 
I'm going to check those fog kits in next while or so.
I'm glad I found finally definite answers as to which fog light are proper, all thanks to you guys.
Before I was trying to find out if one of the eBay sellers would have compatible lights for me. They never have been able to provide me proper info. Looks like the installation should be pretty straight forward. Mine bumper is brand new so I shouldn
 
So I just ordered Hella Fog Lamps Kit from Yellow and blue lighting. Before I ordered I ask seller about the manual which I was emailed. The whole procedure would be pretty straight forward if not for one thing:
as my 4runner is 97 it doesn't have factory harness (?) where the fogs should be plugged into. Is there a way I can create those plugs? or should I run dedicated circut for it?
Does anybody know what is the easiest way to solve this problem?

like i said, if you got a remote switch for it , all you wire up is a small controll box to the lights themselves, then attach the box ground wire to body, & hot wire to battery, thats it. you can keep the remote switch on your key ring. its super easy, & you can turn them on from across the parking lot. cheap on ebay.
 
Sorry I'm not that fluent as it comes to auto wiring. You mean I can have the light on my car remote? so when I start the car fogs will be always on? do you have the diagram by any chance?

no, if you cant find factory pigtails, ( wire hookups for fogs) you run the 2 wires from each foglight to the small remote control receiver box( about 2 x 2 in.) that you mount behind bumper or on firewall, (comes all wired up & ready) then run the red power wire from that to battery, & black ground wire to any screw or bolt near where you mounted the box. thats it, you get 2 remotes- 1 just stick on dash or where ever, the other you can carry with you. since lights are powered by the battery, & not routed threw factory harness, you can operate them when your out side or inside of vec., across parking lot, etc. real easy,no trying to run switch wires threw firewall, & you can mount lights any where . & cost around 20 bucks on ebay. can be used on offroad lights, aux. lights, etc. after lights are mounted, it takes all of ten min. to do. go to ebay, & do a search for remote wiring for fog lights, the stores name is A&M LIGHTING AND ACCESSORIES

I installed a set of rear aux lights under my rear bumper and it was pretty straight forward. Installed the switch in one of the empty slots.

I might suggest you visit a full service automotive accessory store (I.E. NAPA, AutoZone, Pep Boys etc.) and they can walk you through what you need and what to do.

If you read a few of the threads on members installing aftermarket lights with switches, you will get the basic idea.

A remote is nice but not necessary.

no wire splicing involved with the remote, plus it is kinda nice to turn lights on if ya see people snooping around your car & your up on the second floor of an apartment biulding.
 
OK that is easy, the remote transmitter does it have any fuses, just in case there is a short in the future, I gues if I use inline fuse I guess you would put it between battery and transimtter.
Also which wire I should use and where do I get it from?

you can get the whole set , ready to install. it comes with the small receiver allready wired, the hot wire (red) has the inline fuse, the ground (black) & the the double pigtail wire that you attach to the foglight wires. thats it. 20 bucks, just follow directions. you have to check ebay
