I live right outside of Charleston, SC, I'm new to the forum, and new to Toyota. I just became the proud owner of a 1986 4runner 22rte. The only thing I know about it is its in great condition interior and exterior, other than I think the timing may be a little off. I will post some pics soon

Welcome! What part of the great city of Charleston are you from? I have a buddy in Goose Creek and spend a week each year on Edisto Island.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm actually in Moncks Corner and I'm a Clemson fan too, I have a nice big orange paw to go on the back glass of my 4runner:D I'm a little weary about keeping the turbo, and have been thinking about an engine swap. It idles great, but there is a lack of power, and the previous owner had the timing chain replaced, and doesn't think it was adjusted right. Also the digital boost gauge is stuck at 4 bars, but I can hear the turbine spooling. I had to tap the starter to get it to turn over, so I went ahead and ordered some contacts to replace the existing ones. The four wheel drive works great, the tranny shifts like it should. The body is in great shape other than a small rust spot behind each rear tire.

Well I had some free time to play around under the hood today, so I put in 10 gallons of 93 octane, treated with seafoam, then suck a half of can into the engine via brake booster vacuum line, and changed the fuel filter "Boy was that a bad design!!" I will probably relocate that on the next change! After playing a 30 minute game of try and out run the smoke, the engine ran great, I do have an oil leak somewhere near the turbo at the rear of the block, because I can see a tiny bit of smoke and it smells like motor oil for sure. The turbo is spooling fine, just the digital boost gauge is frozen at 4 bars, and my fuel gauge just flashes from full to empty, then finally reads empty I feel better about keeping the 22ret as is right now, and just do a rebuild when the time comes, and of course upgrade to a t3.
