Hi All! I'm new here! I just got my 2005 4Runner SR5 4WD a couple months ago after a parking lot incident totalled out my Prius. I'm new to the whole SUV/Off-Roading thing, but I LOVE my 4Runner and I LOVE being able to do so many great things with it!

I just got new sliders for it! skid plates are next, then I think the suspension, followed by bumpers. Should be really fun when it's all set!

I'd love to have a nice semi-expedition vehicle, maybe a small fridge, some utility drawers, a shower and I'd like to hear your thoughts and experiences on it.

From a Prius to an '05 Runner! Nice. Nothing against the Prius, thinking about getting something along those lines if I keep adding stuff to my Runner. My MPG's are disappearing! Anyway....welcome to the forums. Lotsa good info here.

What sliders did you get? Did you weld them on yet? I waited until after I installed my body lift to weld mine on. If no BL in the future, no problem. Skid plates....those are next on my list.

There are a bunch of examples and write ups on ALL the stuff you want to do on this forum. Look around, ask questions, and show us what you're up to along the way!

My sliders are custom built. They are bolted on but the frame has been reinforced. I got real lucky, our other vehicle is a 1968 FJ40 which is in the process of a full rebuild by the best land cruiser specialist in AZ and he was kind enough to build and install my sliders and built the skid plates! I'm excited to go try them out this weekend!

Since I wear heals frequently, I may have the sliders altered a bit to make getting in and out easier, but so far it's all been great... Now if I can only figure out how to post pictures....

I have to ask, what could possibly happen in a parking lot to total a vehicle?

Also, it's nice to hear of another chick who uses her 4Runner like it was meant to be used. :trophy:

My Prius was hit by a Ford focus in a Wal-Mart parking lot going less than 15 MPH!! Who knew it would total it! Glad it did, though. I miss my Prius but LOVE LOVE LOVE my 4Runner!

Here is my 4Runner with it's new sliders on it:

LOVE the new sliders!! That's what I'm hoping to be the first mod on my '04.

It's a little humorous that you went from a Prius to a 4Runner, considering gas mileages and all. We went from a Scion to the Runner, so sort of the same situation. IMHO, the loss in gas mileage is worth it for the sake of driving a 4Runner. =)

Yeah, I had my Prius 2 years before it got totaled, and I do miss it, but we were limited to pavement with it and it got quite frustrating. I thought it was a good opportunity to have something that we could explore with. Words of wisdom - Do not get into an accident with a Prius!

Picture of the Prius damage is attached (no i did not hit the guy in the picture)

I definitely want to get a front and rear bumper for my 4Runner, but I have a feeling it's going to be a few years down the road and I'm hoping I have my 4Runner long enough to see the bumpers (2 accidents in 2 years, both totalled my vehicles - I am now jaded to think I'll have a vehicle longer than 2 years!!). I have time before I make a bumper purchase, but I'm wondering what the pros and cons of the ARB -vs- the Shrockworks. Any input would be great!

Well I can assure you your runner would have held up much better than that prius in that collision. As far as the bumpers, I don't really know all that much but from what I have read the biggest difference is the looks and a slight weight difference.

Getting my skid plates installed tomorrow! Just in time for our vacation to Great Basin National Park, Salt Lake City and Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week. Yahoo!

Great Basin National Park was great with the 4Runner, however looks like a new rear bumper has been elevated to the top of the modification list! (where did that tree and cement pillar come from??)
