Greetings all - I'm new here. Thought I'd tell you a bit about my 4runner...
I bought it new in 1997, and haven't done much to it, other than drive it 300k miles. It's on it's last tank of gas before turning that milestone, as we speak. Happy birthday. 20k miles a year for 15 years. Not bad.
Fun facts: It's the 5 speed - I just replaced the clutch for the first time since it was new, at 280k miles. I also just put a quart of oil into it between oil changes for the first time since it was new. Still gets the same mileage as it did when it was new.
It's pretty much stock, save for the voluntary recall springs I had put on the rear suspension before the recall became mandatory. I had that done around 100k miles. And, the antenna broke twice. That's pretty much it for mechanical failures. It's the best transportation I've ever owned, and no car can ever live up to how reliable this thing has been. Last summer I drove it to Boulder and back, on the old clutch at 270k miles. Took the scenic route through Yellowstone and the Tetons. It's been to Denver and back, Los Angeles and back, Las Vegas and back, and Whistler and back more than I could count.
Probably going to sell it, and get another one. It's worth way more to me than I could ever get for it, and it might even be worth parking in the driveway, just to look at. I remember every scratch, every dent, and every mile that was put on this thing. These weren't highway miles either - between skiing, climbing, camping and transporting dogs, this thing was driven.
Oh, and it kind of stinks inside of 15 years of dog. Of the 300k miles, I think 280k of those had at least one dog in the back.
