New Front Speakers Installed

Finished installing my new front speakers this weekend...

I installed Polk Audio db6750 Components. I got them on closeout/open box from Crutchfield super cheap.

Definitly an improvement over the stock speakers.

I am powering them off the HU (Alpine 9857). They could definitly use an amp, but it is not in the cards right now...

I am still running stock rears...

Anyone else have these?

Does anyone else have this HU?

The Biolite display is awsome and the Ipod interface is super fast. This HU doesn't have too many sound options compared to the older Alpines, but it works well and looks sharp.

I also have an Alpine MRP-M350 amp powering an 8" sub....

On the Polk component spearkers where did you install the tweeters? If placed them in the same spot as the previous tweeters, did they fit well? Would you post a picture too.

those alpine radios are great.
I had the 9856 (w/out biolite)
its simple to use to which is awesome..

One thing you will notcice is that the highs are a little awkward with the DB speakers. (components at least)..when a song plays a "s" noice (vocals) it will sometimes sound like they have a lisp or it will sound a little awkward..

Good basic components though.

I would suggest amping them with a decent 4ch (something with 60+watts RMS at 4 ohms). The speakers can handle more, however getting a 100w rms amp is usually expensive

are those stock gauges? they look to be more white colored than green, like all 4 runners stock are. or it could just be the lighting

looks like the lighting to me...those alpine radios arnt THAT bright..looks like his camera is making everything brighter

How hard is it to remove the door panel? Anything special I should be looking out for? I think my '02 T4R has after market speakers from the previous owner, but I wanted to have a look myself. They sound a little too good with my Apline HU to be stock.

there is a thread on yotatech.com under writeups and electronics on replacing the 3rd gen stereo system..

It should describe how to get into the doorpanels.

If you can get a bright enough light, you can shine it on the speaker grills and see if you can see something with some color..the factory speakers are a brownish color, whereas anything aftermarket should be some brighter "regular" color (red, silver, white, blue, etc)

Definately helps over stock! Are you going to put 5 1/4 in the rear doors?

No plan to put in new rear speakers... I'm not sure they would do much. Half the time I have my rear seats folded down to fit wakeboard equipment and the rear speakers would be partially covered.

I like the Polks, but they really do need an amp. I've had Polk components before in previous cars and they do sound better when amped. I prefer the sound of Boston components, but did want the spend the extra cash on them...

Bocomo - the tweeters were very easy to install. They fit perfectly behind the stock tweeter panel and grill. Probably the easiest tweeter I have ever installed - and completely stock looking. The woofer required some effort, but fit in nicely.

I also dynamatted the inside of the panels and foam taped all of the cables and connections to reduce vibration and prevent rattles, although I don't think it will do much in this vehicle.

nice setup. components are the only way to go. i put Infinity Reference components up front and Polk 4 1/2's in the rear (just because i got them cheap). Really no reason to put in new rear speakers... unless you are reallly nice to the people who ride back there.. cause most likely you will never really hear them. Also have al alpine HU, Rockford Fosgate 501s amp (1500 watts) and a JL w3v2 sub. rocks my world when i need it to... more bass then i would ever want and i listen to rap/hip hop. Stereo upgrades are necessary for almost all cars these days (minus lexus/mb and those brands that charge ya $3k for the stereo to begin with)

i have a 98 and the door panels are some of the easiest to get off of any car ive ever seen. pop ur the armrest and two screwed under there.... screw behind the door handel, and pop up window buttons and un-do the wires (or do that once you have it off). assuming im not missing any steps... then pop all arund the bottom where the plastic things are.. then pull up and wa la its off.not sure if its exactly the same on all years...

Nice speaks...Was looking into those myself, to match my subs

As someone else also said before, did you have any difficulties stuffing the tweets in the stock location or did you put them somewhere else?

i work at best buy and got the infinity reference components and 4 inch in the back.. but my subs def over powerr

i think i am gonna save up for an nice 4 channel amp with my discount

I haven't actually heard the polks but I do know they make good speakers. I would recommend getting an amp for them though. You will actually hear how your speakers are supposed to sound.

I have the Boston Acoustic SL 60s in the front and SL 65s in the rear powered by the JL Audio 300/4 amp. Got 2 12" W3v2 JL subs in the back too. I like to think my system will rock out with the best of them.

I would highly recommend BA speakers. They are a bit expensive but if you love your audio they won't let you down.
