new generation 2 owner

Inexperienced newbie here. My son just told me he bought a 95 SR5 4x4 4Runner. its a 6cyl. Two questions. Are all generation 2 body parts inter-changeable and does he have the 22R motor?

22R is a 4 cylinder so no.

His engine is the 3.0L V6 3VZE. Don't let anyone tell you it is not a good engine. As long as it is well maintained, it is a great engine. Don't expect a ton of power out of it, because it is not there. Should treat him well regardless.

With that being said, train him to scan over the thermostat every few minutes while driving. Do not let this bad boy overheat :flame:

Best advice I can give your son (and you) is to make sure all the factory recalls have been done.

Second - make sure all the fluids have been changed. Radiator, engine oil, transmission, front and rear diffs, and transmission flushed. An ounce of prevention...etc.

EDIT - Also change out the fuel filter. It's a pain to get out, but worth the effort.

The 3.0 is not a horsepower type engine, but offroad - it will get you there and back.

Most the 2nd gens have the 3vze engine, besides a few 22re powered ones here and there :eyebrows:
