hey all, new girl to the thread, I have a question/need some help.

I have a 2006 SR5 that came with the single disc mp3 cd player. I purchased the 6 disc jbl synthesis of ebay to install but the things dont match up and the Toyota shop says they dont have anything to make it work?

any of ya'll who have made the switch have any help/advice for me here? I am desperate to install a 6 disc as all my previous vehicles have had it and I want it to be the Toyota ones, I have it in my hands and now I am having trouble getting it in.. help!

let me clarify, the single disc is not a jbl, the new one is, so i am sure this is why the plugs are not matching up.. I am going to try to post pics a little later.. but if anyone else has made the swap and has any thoughts/help/ideas, would be greatly appreciated. want to get the new radio installed while the runner is in the body shop so that when i pick her up, all the new stuff is ready to go

My SR5 had the base CD player too. I thought I wanted a 6 disc CD player, but then read lots of posts about switching to an OEM Scion single CD radio and then connecting my iPod. I made the switch and couldn't be happier. The radio head unit controls the iPod directly and the sound is 10X as good as the stock 4Runner unit. Still works with the steering wheel controls and is cheap too.

I think the problem may be a little more complicated than just matching the plugs. The JBL system is more than just the head unit up front. The output from the head unit goes to the JBL amp in the back of the vehicle, and then gets distributed from there to the 10 speakers in the JBL system. To make matters worse, I think the output from the new head unit that goes to the amp may be digital, so it wouldn't work at all if hooked straight up to speakers. If it were me, I would look at the colors of the wires leading into the plugs. If you can match up a decent amount of the colors (I'm gonna say around 15 matches) it could probably work, but you would need to cut both plugs off and splice the wires together.

yeah i think i am screwed with putting that in but Forenaftrunner has given me some hope with another option. So that said, guess I will have a nice 6 disc JBL up for sale shortly

If you can't get the 6 disc player to fit then I recommend selling it on ebay and logging onto Crutchfield. They sell all sorts of headunits that will fit just fine in your 05, plus it will come with a kit and step by step instructions on how to install. Plus I really dont get the use of a 6 disc changer in the day and age of MP3.

yes, I have posted it on ebay and am going with Forenaftrunner suggestion... its a shame cause I really wanted the in dash 6 disc, I know its the day and age of mp3 but I have a lot of older cd's that I enjoy listening to as well.

That's no problem, either. Just rip the CDs to MP3 format on your computer, and make compilations of whatever you like. I've done that will all my CDs, LPs, and even some old cassettes, and have all the music on the PC.

I-Pod Head Unit

The I-Pod head unit is definately the way to go. I installed an Alpine with my JBL Synthesis system. I just added a Kenwood 1000 watt amp and an Alpine 10" external subwoofer.

The system is outstanding. The JBL 10 speaker system sounds great, but only with an upgraded head unit and backed up with a good sub and amp.

I don't even know where all of my CD's are because I have them all on my I-Pod now. The I-pod goes in the glove box and the head unit controls work everything. I did have to purchase an option cable to make my steering wheel controls work.

If I was given a 6 disc changer for free, I wouldn't know what to do with it.

Another option is a Scion 6 disc changer, I believe model T1805 is a changer. This should be a direct replacement of your stock. Only two downsides that i can think of:

- I have read that some of the Scion changers have had reliability issues

-No Ipod connecting ability (Sounds like you dont care about this)
