new guy here...need rear hatch help!!

hey everyone my first time on here....hoping you guys can help. My rear hatch on my 05 4runner SR5 has quit working for the second time. last year i took it to toyo dealer gere in Denver and he was nice enuff to let me watch as i only had enough $$ for a diagnosis.....the issue at hand is that the windshiels wiper wont "reset" to its zero position (sit on the rubber bar at the base of the window) because the wiper stops at various points on the window it causes the rear window not to work (and sometimes the rear hatch) so i have driven this suv for two years with the wiper not going down all the way and therefore the rear window not working either....no great loss just a big pain in the ##$.

well after having the rear lift gate stop working as well I was forced to take it in. The tech was somehow able to get the wiper to reset and then the rear window would work and most importantly the rear hatch was working again. Now a year later the rear gate has frozen again. i was able to get the wiper to go down to zero again (after a million tries) but no luck...the rear hatch and the rear window still dont work!! his suggestion last year was to replace the wiper motor and the ecu unit. My question is this: as a guy on a budget whos gonna probably buy used parts...which of these two part would you try first? remember the rear wiper works but it goes a little crazy in midstroke...it will go halfway across and then zig zag back halfway through every third or 4th pass?

enough info??? sorry for the long thread.....thanks:thanks:

Try disconnecting the battery. You will lose your tripometer mileage, radio presets and need to normalize the driver and hatch window and moonroof, if you have it.

To normalize the windows and moonroof, fully open the window/moonroof and hold the switch in the open position for a second or two, then fully close each while holding the switch in the close position for another second or two. The one touch open and close should be restored now.
