Just stopping in to say hey in the 3rd gen section. I'm a T4R owner as of Sunday. Got a '99 SR5 4WD with 28k on it. Still trying to get use to it. Drove a Chevy Z-71 ext. cab for the past seven years. it was time to let her go and get something a little more dependable (still love chevys).
I'm sure I'll come up with some off the wall questions about some little gadget i don't know what the heck its for.....Oh yeah, what's the little fan under the passenger seat? Does it run all of the time? anyhows, glad to be hear. Peace!

In the future, yes. Right now i'm happy with her being stock. Oh yeah, btw, I'm married...and my wife works at the bank...she knows where every penny goes!
 
Nice buy man. That fan you hear behind the passenger seat is your rear passenger fan control. You can turn it off from the passenger seat, it should be near the rear ashtray on the console.

I drove around for probably 3 months trying to figure out what that was after my friends turned it on.
 
Welcome and nice find w/28K. If you don't know something about the 4runner there is a 99% chance someone here does, and if not they can point ya in the direction.
 
Haha i had the same problem...the back rear passenger heat was on all summer one year... Got a tad steamy in there for no reason... then i found the controls and the fan noise went away.

Must be cause besides an ashtray and a fold out cup holder I don't see a thing. But the "new guy" said he got an SR5 and he's got it, so what gives? Got a photo of it maybe?
 
Now ya'll got me wondering what trim i have. I'm on duty at the F.D. today but i'll try to get a pic posted Fri. It says "SR5" on back. I've got cloth seats which makes me think it's not a limited...heck i don't know... i've only had her for 5 days now.
 
any model can have it, its considered "rear air" I have it on my 98' SR5. Nothing really to brag about in your sig, i dont even think i use mine, im pretty sure it will only do heat too.

It was a option on the SR5, I think it was around $125 in 2001.
 
I have a 98 SR5 and I have several options that a buncha websites say came out in 99, but yea my rear temperature controls are on the back of the center console too
 
I have a window sticker that I printed from an ebay ad for a 4Runner just like mine (a '00 SR5 4x4 with upgrade value package #4) and it has a seperate line item in the optional equipment area that reads "RH REAR HEATER 170.00". I assume this is the option that gives you the controls on the back of the console. My SR5 has these controls as well. Not sure if they came automatically on Limiteds or if they were also just an option on Limiteds?
