New headunit and idata link MAESTRO

I purchased a Kenwood Excelon DMX905S and in trying to figure out what type of OBD data I can get in my 2016 SR5. I know there is a Crux harness that can be used to maintain steering wheel controls and I am trying to see what advantages the maestro has over the Crux. I browed the idata website but was unable to figure out anything specific to my vehicle. Thank you in advance.

I get TPMS data, doors opened, current transmission selection, and battery charge as far as I know. Not too exciting but the TPMS stuff has been very helpful.

I have the pioneer and Off the top of my head i get:

• Tire pressure reading (though it doesn't autoload which side)
• Doors open, including hood
• Temp
• MPG and how much fuel is left
• Coolant temp
• Tansmission temp (that was tricky to get)
• Battery reading

There are two screens you can load with different gauges... example

add Dynamic parking lines for OEM camera
add changing vehicle settings like window roll up with remote, etc
add front camera control if adding another camera

I have the Kenwood DDX6704 and Idatalink

I found the TPMS info to be among the most useful info, especially the temperature read out. During the summer my tires would reach well over 100 degrees, increasing tire pressure by 5 or 6 psi per tire.
Also the trans temp readout is handy when pulling a trailer up grades.

There is a "vehicle info" page that shows pressure and temp of all 4 tires, battery voltage, and doors open/closed.

There is a "gauges" screen that lets you show 5 gauges of your choosing. You can have 2 gauges subpages - total of 10 gauges.

Maestro adds lines to the backup camera that shows you the projected path of the vehicle depending on your steering wheel position. As you turn the steering wheel, the lines curve along various arcs. Also, the Kenwood head unit allows me to view the rear view camera even when I'm not in reverse.

I have the DMX905S, pretty solid head unit. I added the Kenwood dash cam recently which is nice as well. Wireless android auto is great if you plan to use it -- but wouldn't call it reliable (though once connected, it generally stays connected). Hopefully future updates will fix that.

Be sure to update the HU firmware, if necessary, once you have everything set up (available on kenwood's website -> support).

I think the above posts hit on everything you'll get on the head unit from OBD. Don't think fuel economy, open doors, or a few other things works for me. Honestly, it was interesting to look at once or twice, but only the tire pressure monitor is really useful.

I read the idata website but am confused as to what modules I need for the install. I have a non jbl with nav. I'm not sure if I need the module for stock GPS antenna as the Kenwood comes with on. I don't need a seperate OBD reader?

Kenwood DRV-N520, the one that interfaces directly with the head unit. Wouldn't say it's flawless, but it's certainly better than a standalone dash cam. I did find the safety features to be useless, even after checking that it was properly configured.

The adapter cable was maybe $8. I used the included antenna velcroed to the side of the head unit in the dashboard and it worked fine. But eventually bought the adapter cable, simply to take advantage of the built-in antenna and have one fewer thing rattling around in the dash.

I posted a detailed description of adapters a while back - complete with part numbers. Dig thru some of my old posts (click my name on the left and look at stats or something like that) and it’ll tell you exactly which parts are needed for GPS and ODBII.

Low profile, no buttons. Operate it and view files right on the headunit. It's only compatible with a select few Kenwood decks.

Would you mind sharing how you got the trans temp to work? Currently having issues getting it to display.

You have to select the setup option which is the wrench and screw driver icon on the top right, from there you change the gauge to display and min and max increments measurements. If you go back and select P2 and hit setup you will have more gauge options. The car with the i icon on the left will give you tire psi and voltage. In normal radio operation if you hold down the up volume on the steering wheel it will also display psi and voltage. As stated before by other threads, I don't use the gauge option much either but i do monitor psi and voltage since I have an agm battery and a ArcLightLeds voltage booster installed with audio amps. I do monitor MAF since I have a URD maf calibrator. I hope that helps. Modifying the open the windows by remote key is a nice feature to enabled for those hot summers in Houston. I hope all that info helps you make the selections important to you. Idatalink Maestro makes me feel I have a modern 4runner.

I installed a Kenwood 994s with maestro and you also have the menus to change all the vehicle settings like doors lock when in drive, adjust time lights stay on when you get out and 20 other options.

Most people have to go the dealer to change all those settings or get a techstream
