New here , 98 Limited --need some advice

Hey Just signed up recently and figured Id post up pics and see if anyone has any suggestions to try and resolve some of my current issues. This is my first Toyota ever I am a VW enthusiast at heart.

I live in Vancouver Canada :hello:

She is Super clean only 186,xxx kms on her. I had it Pre inspected by Toyota prior to buying it, The recommendation by them was that the rear axle seals needed to be done, the rear bearings, Drums and possibly the shoes( due to be soaked with Gear oil). I have used search and been reading about this particular job, not looking forward to it seeing as this is my first Toyota!

Since Driving it over the past week I have noticed the brakes stick a bit after i stop or let off the brakes its followed by a little bit of a clunck. I have been reading tons of threads online also realizing that my driveshafts and U-joints most likley need to be lubed and could be dry also causing that symtom.

Over the past few days I noticed that tthe shifts arent butter/ super smooth. I am not to sure where to start, I checked the Tranny fluid and it looks good and level seems ok. Any suggestions, other than draining fluid and replacing....

I live in Vancouver Canada, any locals know of a good shop that could do the work or even have the knowledge and would like to help me out Im a bit overwhelmed at this point.

Don't sweat it you will get it worked out and put another 100k on her before you know it. First if tranny looks ok fluid wise and you don't know whether the fluid has been changed before do not change it!!if you have records it's been changed regularly then no big deal change if you want. Otherwise just add fluid when and if it needs it. You can hit up a local quick oil change place and they will grease all the fittings for next to nothing or stop by auto parts store buy grease gun and do it your self you will see the nipples where to connect hose squeeze till it oozes out.

In my humble opinion unless you or your buddies have a press and know how to use it don't mess with that rear axle seal on your own. It unfortunately has happened on a lot of yotas. I'd just bite the bullet have local yota dealer do it or trust worthy shop at least that way work will be guaranteed. The greasing and tranny easy solve and don't sweat rearend yeah it needs done but like u said it has 180 some thousand miles can't have tore it up too bad or wouldn't still be driving. Cheaper way would be to pull the axle out and take it to a shop and have the seal pressed out and the new one put back in. Way cheaper and all you'd have to do is slide the axle back in and put the rear drum brakes back together and you're good to go. Prob save you a couple hundred bucks.
