Hi,
I'm new on the forum. I used to own a 4Runner and sold it for a BMW X5. I know, I know. LOL Now I am looking at going back to the 4runner.

Looking at a 2000. Here are the specs:

2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5.
Silver with Dark Gray interior. Great Condition. Automatic. 4WD. 120,400 miles. 3.4 Liter engine. 6 Cylindar. 2" Revtech lift and new suspension done at Les Schwabb. BF Goodrich mud tread tires on it. Leather seats. Back seat foot heating with temp control. Back power drop-down tailgate glass and windshield wiper. Daytime running lights and additional fog lights. Thule roof racks for skis or snowboards (fits 4 boards on the top) After market tinted windows front, back and rear windshield. Running boards. Auto windows. Keyless entry. Moon roof. Tow package. Back privacy shade for the trunk area. It has the hood scoop since it is a sport edition. These sport editions do not come with leather. It was a custom job before I owned it. I have redone the leather on the drivers seat so that is totally new. Stereo hooks up to an ipod or iphone through the glove box. You can control the ipod through the stereo face. I got the stereo professionally installed. I've been the owner for 5 years and it's never given me a single problem. Regular 3000 mile oil changes since I've owned it and the tires have been rotated every 5,000 miles (or less) as specified by Big O Tires. Recently had a new battery put in, new brakes and the steering fluid flushed and refilled.

Asking price is $10,500.

So what should I offer and what is a good price to end up at?

I'm going to test drive it tomorrow. Any suggestions, things to look at, etc.??

Where are you located? The price seems high even for the bay area. The revtek lift is cheap and you would want to replace it eventually anyways. Try to talk him down a good amount. Look at when the timing belt was done, rear axle seals, ask about the transmission and radiator having issues and rust.
 
Nor. Nev/Nor Cal. I've been looking locally and there aren't many for sale that are well cared for. Anything newer than 2003 is $14k and up and has almost as many miles. Others in the 2000 to 2002 model years cost maybe 1500 less but are not in great condition and/or have 160,000+.

Going to test drive it tomorrow, take it to a local mechanic.... we'll see.
 
I saw that one on autotrader.com. It looked really clean. Try to talk him down regarding the lift. That lift is only 2-300 and should not influence the price a whole lot. Good luck tomorrow.
 
Hmmm.... That's about $2K too high, IMO. No mention of timing belt change, so check for a label on the timing belt cover to see if it's ever been done. SR5 is shift-on-fly 4WD so test it out an make sure it works.

How many miles on M/T's? You may be looking at putting on new rubber as those wear down pretty fast on hard surface roads.
 
I think it's pretty hard to give what you should pay for it without seeing it. So much to me is on my gut when looking at it or driving it (this is also coming from the guy who bought his 4Runner sight unseen and bought a one-way ticket to go pick it up, but my gut was telling me good things). It's really a matter of how much are you willing to pay for it and feel good about it. On paper, $10,500 seems a little high to me.
 
I would like to see a pic myself in order to pass judgement. The specs sound good, and considering that it is a Sport helps as those are certainly harder to find.

I will say this... a "fair price" is hard to nail down on these 4Runners. A lot of people on here will say that $10500 is too high, but at the end of the day its all about where you are that drives the price. I bought my bone stock 2000 Limited 4x4 with 108000 miles in September for $9600. And to be honest, I thought that was a great deal because for 2 months I had looked at 4Runners with much higher mileage and were mostly SR5 models for about the same amount. In western NC, these trucks are hard to find in good condition as are Tacoma's.

Basically if you are happy with it and it checks out mechanically then go for it. You could find one for cheaper, but it could be months. If it is the same one I saw then it looks really clean. As long as you are going to be happy then thats all that matters. Plus you could always just sell it for the same price soon after if you wanted.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to test drive it tomorrow. I've talked to the owner a bit. I'll be checking the records and having a local mechanic look it over for sure.

A few thoughts on my end. Looking at it and crawled around and under. Looks clean for what I can see. First I'll take it for a drive. If it rides well it goes to the mechanic for a checkup. On the price it is on the upper end for a 2000 but well equiped. It's not $2k over for around here. Even finding one of these around here in reasonably good condition is tough. It has 120k mi. Most I see for 2000-2002 have 160k or more.

It's a sport with factory leather upgrade and a brank new driver seat replacement. From what I can tell its a combo of the sport and limited like trim levels. In talking to the owner it neeeds the timing belt so we can subtrack $750 right there. The shop I am taking it to said they will credit the cost of the checkup against the timing belt work if I get it so that is good. The tires are more worn than I'd like. Looks like I could get the rest of the winter and summer out of them.

I'd be offfering less for sure. Looking at what is available around here like the one posted above on craigshist in noe valley... it's not that far off. Hope he's not on the board here. LOL

Oh and thanks for the replies. I am learning a bit from the site here so... also need to ask if it had the differential drop, any change in the coil springs and/or longer shocks?

I stood up on one of the running boards and it feels stiff for sure.
 
You're on the right track, looks like a good vehicle. SR5 with leather and the sport hood is a pretty cool combination.

You'll probably also need new plugs. If it has any stumbling or hesitation while driving at 50-60mph, you'll know for sure, but I'd have them replaced anyway. It's an easy job and one you could do yourself to start getting to know your new girl.
 
I think if it drives and checks out , it looks great and thats not a terrible deal. i paid over $10K for my 01 2 years ago but at the time it only had 85K miles on it. Didnt have leather or sport hood however. if its indeed a Revtek lift, its a 3", not 2" btw

I had this version. The Leather seats were OEM too.

+ 1 on the $9,500. as fair

Guy on another thread looking at a 99 with 87k at $6,500 has the deal of the day.
 
LOL! I can't see the pictures at work but that is about double what I have as a budget. Haha.

Thanks all. Drove it today + had it checked over by a local Toyota mechanic. It got a clean bill of health except two small items. The seller agreed to my price based on the report... this thread was on target. I'm happy.

I got a bit more info on the lift too. It's a les $chwab kit that included a Revtek 430 so a 3" lift w/ the $chawab brand Mountain Rider extreme foam cell shock - apparently a rebadged Gabriel shock(?). I chekced the Gabriel site but didn't see any foam cell shocks. On the test drive the ride was really good not too stiff and not a lot of sway or tilt. Turned on a dime really. I need to read up on these a bit more. I might look to get something better down the raod but for now it will work great for me.

How long will these tires last tho?

Well did you buy it? I couldn't tell by the post. The tires look like they should have 6-8 months left, but it is a little hard to tell. What brand are they?

Per his intro post, they are BF Goodrich M/T's, and I'd say 6-8 months is about right.

Congrats on the purchase! Go get you some Bridgestone Revo's or Toyo Open Country A/T's and you'll have good wear w/o the road noise and wear of the M/T's.
