New here with a little problem and a question.

Hey everyone,

I just picked up an '05 4Runner Sport a week ago. It has the JBL single disc head unit.

The radio FM radio just starting acting up. It will hiss then go silent only to come back on with some religious station that cannot be changed. When you hit the other preset buttons the channel number change but the same channel is still playing.

Any ideas?

Also, I've been looking at the Scion head units from searching the forum.

Can I hook up the Scion head unit to the JBL system?

How's it going? That's pretty freaky!

The Scion radio doesn't use an external amp; the JBL systems have an external amp. Not only are the plugs different, even if you were to adapt the radio to the amp, it requires a special turn on signal (It actually communicates with the JBL radio) for it to turn on. You could possibly bypass the amp, however, if you are going to do that, you may as well install aftermarket speakers as well.

There are JBL radios on Ebay all the time if you want to make it simple.
