New Horns

I hooked up a new set of horns for my truck last night. I work for a boat factory and came accross a set of new old stock dual trumpet horns that were getting thrown out, so I decided to grab them. I wanted to make them work on my motorcycle, but there really was not mounting space. My infiniti was the same way.

I recently bought a 2006 4runner Sport and found a spot for them in front of the radiator, just opposite of the stock horns. The stock horns don't sound bad, but I have these and figured why not. These really aren't much louder, but the deeper sound is more trainlike than the stocks. I don't have a picture just yet, but I will post one soon.

Pictures would be cool, but a sound clip would RAWK! Is it like an "OOOOoooooggggggggggaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAA!" sound or what?

Louder horns on a motorcycle are always good. I've been look at this air horn for my bike, but I just don't have the room for it...

The loudest horn I could find for my VFR800 Interceptor was the Stebel Nautilus which was around 138db! It was a electromagnetic airhorn and it rocked! The biggest downfall with traditional air horns is the delay that occurs between when you hit the horn and when it sounds, the e-m airhorn speeds it up considerably.

Here is the Stebel on my triumph speed triple and one on the 4runner... they are a little louder and a different pitch...

the one on the triple is loud but by the time some one hears it I am generally miles down the road. hahahaha

I like the deep tone of the stock horns. It doesn't sound like a typical Toyota horn, more like an american vehicle so people tend to pay attention when you use it...

Does anybody knows how many decibells (db) are the stock horns in our 4R?

I could hardly hear mine. Not sure if this is because of the cabin being insulated or the horns just suck. Anyway that is why I replace them. Just another excuse that I gave my wife

atleast you dont have the sucktastic horns that where on mine god did they suck i replaced the with a set off a 97 vw jetta and there way better and are louder than the ones one my moms tundra

I took the stock horns off. They are like plug and play, unplug the wire connectors and take out the bolts and they come right off. I just used a ground wire (yellow wire) and connected it/grounded it to the frame with a bolt that was grounding another wire. Then took the red wire and plugged it into one of the existing horn wires that I disconnected and I also used a bigger fuse in the fuse box, maybe a 20 or 25, I cannot remember. Hope that helps
