New Ignition Coil

So I was changing out my spark plug wires when all of the sudden my ignition coil just started smoking and spewing out this black tar. When I took it off I saw that it had a crack, either from before or after it smoking, I don't know. My question is has anyone bought an aftermarket ignition coil for their 4Runner? I am thinking Mallory or Crane. Beck/Arnley makes an OEM replacement but I want any input from y'all.

Funny that you posted this as I have been thinking about changing the coil on my '87 22re. I find that I am losing power at higher rpm and feel like it is surging around 2500rpm and higher. Got about 220k on it. I had a similar problem with an '84 that I had a few years ago and put a Jacobs coil in. What a difference that made, better fuel mileage, smoother and stronger acceleration and ran smoothly up to redline. Don't know what ever happened to the Jacobs but I will be in the market for another one soon.
