New Jeep Wrangler Pickup spotted on the freeway; w/ PHOTOS

Spotted this rolling through Hollywood the other morning on my way to work. Couldn't get a shot of the front but it certainly looks like the new Wrangle Pickup to me....

Will it give the Tacoma a run for its money? Personally, I'll be sticking with a 5th Gen Runner, but, hey, it's always fun to look at new things....

Yeah.... after I saw it I did a little research on when it was due out, etc ..... and from what I gather Jeep is planning on calling this one the Scrambler as well. I think it was last seen in the mid 80's.

Had a Commanche in 90's. It was the same platform as the classic Cherokee. Sold it to my Dad and then bought it back five years later. Commanche was outstanding but Jeep had no idea how to market it. About the size of Taco and price of the F150 so people chose either of those two instead.

Completely convertible canvas body. For extreme Jeep enthusiasts. You can strip it down to bare frame, adding side bars is optional and do some seriously stupid rock crawling and incline roll-overs.

It will be a very different vehicle than the Taco. Probably the people who buy it will not be looking at Tacoma's, and visa versa. The buyer for it won't be looking for much of a pickup, more of a SUV weekend get away, camping, haul the bicycles etc car that can tackle real off road situations.
The Tacoma buyer is probably more in need of a pickup. More likely to see it at say construction sites on week days. And pulling a camp trailer on weekends, or a boat etc.
So I would expect not to see them as competition much. Might even be more competition for the 4 Runner. Just open in the back instead of station wagon style of load carrying ability.
But pretty cool anyway. Wonder if they will make a "Rubicon" type option with lockers and low geared T-case etc. But I would expect they will sell lots of them, if they don't screw it up. They need to spend a week at Easter Jeep Safari and keep their ears open. Learn what people want, and make it that way. Instead of making what they think people SHOULD want, from some corporate idiots view point, that has never used one.

It should be a total success, and a sales hit if you listen to any enthusiast truck fourms. It will have everything that everybody wants, straight axles front and rear, lockers front and rear , stick shift available , small diesel available , V6 or turbo four cylinder , removal doors , fold down windshield, removable top , easily customizable . yes this will be an off roaders customizers Dream . Will the reliability be as great as a Toyota ? Probably not but really who cares none of us keep our trucks forever and the aftermarket support for jeep is just too much to ignore. The new wrangler is also going to be a huge hit the only two door SUV 4 x 4 available in the United States.

I'm no fan of Ford, but I've always liked the Broncos. Solid, rugged, fun to drive.
Wonder if it'll have an aluminum body.

Ford already rained on the bronco parade, it’ll be nothing like the original only a four-door independent suspension SUV with possibly a removable top and of course automatic transmission only. Basically it’ll be a Ford Explorer like you can buy right now but it’ll say bronco and maybe a removable top the big off-road feature will be a solid rear axle. Big Deal. The jeep lineup will make that new bronco look just like a soccer mom mall crawler , that it is.
