Hey everyone I just became a member here because I think I'm going to buy a 5th gen TE 4Runner. I'm from the Land Rover community and was going to buy either a series 1 disco, or an RRC and I knew a lot about these trucks and the mods you can do and the good fab companies that made parts for those trucks like Rovertyme, and I know absolutely nothing about Toyotas. Now that I think I'm going in the 4Runner direction, I need some help and some advice on things. I really like the Fox shocks and was wondering what companies make complete lift kits for the 5th gen (3"-4" lift) as well as spare tire swing away carriers and the best brush guards, roof racks like Hannibal, so on and so forth. Just give me some companies and names that make good products :thumb3: as well as what I should and shouldn't do with the truck, like maybe the lift isn't a good idea. Welcome! The best thing you could possibly do is read the vast amount of information stored here by many knowledgable owners. Lifting is common and there are some good vendors like OW, OME and others that have great kits. Roof racks like Gobi are common as well. You might want to look at the Trail Edition if you want many of the off road goodies in stock form.

Jonessyy and I just got back from the Vermont Overland Rally, and I won't say anything bad about all the Rovers represented at the meet, but I will say with utmost confidence that the 5th driven by jonessyy did EXCEPTIONAL!!

and leave it at that!

Welcome aboard. I have been a Rover guy for the last 8 years as well. When it was time to replace my beloved Disco II, I picked the 5th gen as well.

Gobi rack, I went with Old Man Emu lift mainly because I had it on my Rover and the price is right with my budget. Shrockworks Sliders and will end up with their bumper as well. They build very quality stuff, and it takes a while for them to do it but it is worth the wait. Feel free to PM me if you would like to talk more.

No we have a LR3, but I just have this picture. We were going to get a series one discovery or range rover classic, but just decided maybe it would be best to go the new car rout and not worry about break downs. Plus the 4runner offers more space with the seats folded flat for equipment etc. Drove one the other day and it was impressive but it had a lot of blowing around on the highway from the wind.

Okay I read about that and heard it on a video. If you were to lift the truck would that impact the system or is it perfectly fine? Thanks guys
 
Is there anywhere on the forum that tells you how to take out the rear sliding tray? Is their carpet underneath? Anything major that you have to do to take it out?

Look up Gary's aka Harper7 build thread, I believe he has removed his. It might be someone else but I know it has been done. Good luck with the purchase and I agree, go with KDSS. Then have fun.
 
I believe Harper7 removed all the carpet in the rear in order to dynamat the whole rear, but I don't believe he had the slide out cargo tray. I believe that option is availiable on the trail and not on a heck of a converted Limited!! BUT there is always the strong possibility I am wrong:D
 
Can't let Pat brag on me too much. The truck performed exceptionally on some very tight, steep, and muddy trails, despite the driver.

Nice job joneseyyy.... but we need bigger pics and more of them!. What did you have it in 4 Low ATRAC and rear locked?
