New Member 1987 4Runner Questions

Hi,

Just registered today. I have a 1987 silver/black 4Runner with the 22RE and manual transmission. I blew the motor years ago(10+) by my own stupidity but the truck has been in storage ever since as I have been planning on going through it. Well, that day has come. I want ot start going through this thing and I have some questions:

1)Where could I get a good remanufactured motor with HIGH QUALITY parts for the rebuild. I know some companies are cutting corners and I don't want that. I'd rather pay more and know I'm getting a quality rebuild. I'd also prefer not to have to send in the core for an exchange but it's also not the end of the world if I do.

2) What are some good aftermarket companies that make good parts for this rig?

3) Can I still buy replacement cosmetic parts for this thing directly from Toyota? Stuff like the chrome rings around the fenderwells, front grill, headlight chrome inserts etc. I'm trying to get it to be in very nice, stock condition.

Wow - I don't have a 1st gen, so I don't know how much help I'll be.

Generally, auto manufacturers/sellers in the US are mandated to stock parts for 10 years after the end of the model year run. That places your 1987 clearly "on its own" as far as parts go. I'm not saying they won't have them, but it will be hit and miss (probably more miss) at best. There are a lot of 1st gen guys on here who know the vehicles front to back and can give you pretty much whatever information you need.

As far as the engine goes, again, the 1st gen guys can tell you the best sources for high quality rebuilds.

I haven't used them but I have seen a lot of favorable comments and no negative ones on these guys.
If you want performance check LC Engineering or DOA Racing.

As for trim, interior or exterior parts, if the dealer can't get it look online.
