I've had an '86 4Runner for the last 25 years. Done all sorts of repairs/mods over the years - pulled the tranny and had the bearings and synchros replaced at 200K, swapped the long block at 240K, put in a Downey stage 1 cam and header at 250K.

But I haven't driven it much in the last few years and now I can't seem to get it to pass CA smog. Just threw in a new ($300) cat converter that didn't help and I've about given up.

Anybody around here want a Gen 1 Runner for cheap?

What kind of condition is it in? How cheap? Where u located?

The Good: Drive train in good shape (other than smog issue). Relatively recent 31" BFG All Terrains. Still gets about 20 mpg on the freeway.

The Bad: Cosmetically kind of beat up (red paint faded to an oxidized pink, dents in the bumper front and rear, dashboard is cracked in a couple of places from sun exposure, driver's seat could really use reupholstering or replacement).

I'd like to get $2K out of it. I figure I'll give it a month to see if I can get that or something close. After that California will pay me $1000 to "retire" it (i.e. drive it to the crusher), but I'd really hate to waste it like that.

I'm in Ventura County (just northwest of Los Angeles), but would be willing to work with folks some distance away to get it to a new owner who could actually use it. If I sell it to anyone in CA it would have to be for off road use only (or for parts) because of the smog issue.
