New Member and 2001 Limited owner

I just purchased a 2001 Limited with 4WD. It has 177K miles and had been exceptionally maintained. I have all the records. Yesterday the check engine light came on and als the VSC lights stay on. Any suggestions?

Charcoal canister probably. Same exact thing happened to me.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do I check that canister?

Not entirely sure. I know its a part of the fuel system. I bought my 4runner at a dealership, and a few days later, the lights came on and the dealership fixed it for free. I know the part itself is not cheap. Could also be a loose or cracked gas cap?
Do you know how to run a scanner on your car? If you do, check for codes, it'll probably be p0440 or p0442.
There are tons of pages on this forum about charcoal canisters and other things that can cause those lights to come on.

On my 2001 a few years ago the engine light came on, along with the VSC and even the ABS. The dash looked like a Christmas tree. Of course I was worried about all sorts of things. With all the lights coming on, it usually means something with the emission controls. I think they like to get your attention with all the light coming on. On mine it was the O2 sensor. It could be charcoal canister or a host of other things. First thing to do is to get it check it out and see what the code is on the computer. Some places will do the diagnosis for free.

Thanks for the help! This morning none of the lights are on! I'll check the codes and see what I can find.
