New member and a question (JBL)...

Hi all. I'm about a month away from picking up an '05 4R. I've spent much time behind the wheel of an '04 as I shared an apartment with a friend who owned one and was very generous in letting me use it.

The question I have relates to the JBL audio system(s). Has anyone spent enough time listening to both a JBL system and the standard system to give an opinion as to it's value? I like to listen to loud, clear music. I wasn't overly impressed with the sound of the base system.

I must be one of few NewEnglanders that appreciates a good sounding system as it doesn't appear that the option is available on the SR5/Sport in my region.

I like the JBL system, especially with the surround (Center channel) speaker on and a lot of bass. The stock JBL lacks in the bass apartment. I'm not a huge audiophile but I do like good sounding music.

With all that being said, a lot of people have bashed the JBL system as being a waste. I added an amp and 2 10" subs (1 would have probably sufficed) and I think it sounds pretty damn good.

Just my opinion.

I second that. I too have the JBL system, and decided to go with a 240 watt and a 12" sub. It sounds great. That (in my mind) was the only thing that was missing. Now the mids and the highs are complimented with great clear bass

Get the JBL system, and throw in a sub. you will not be dissapointed. Just make sure that the person who is installing it knows that there already is a sub and an amp in the back, and that they should attach the amp with a converter in front of the stock amp

I had an 04 SR5 that I traded in for my 05 SE and the 05 has the JBL system. Having had the 04 for almost a year without the JBL I can tell a noticeable difference. I love the sound of the JBL, although it is not as sweet a sound (read minor, minor difference) then the Boston Acoustics in my wife's Jeep. I love the surround sound feature. I would definitely go with the JBL w/10 speakers. I am getting ready to upgrade mine to the Solara Nav unit in the next month I think.
