New Member, Few Questions

Hello everyone, been readin here for the past few months and just wanted to introduce myself. I just recently inherited my first car, a 97 4runner limited with 129,800 miles and completely stock. She's been my moms since 2000 and couldn't be in much better condition for the year. Having just gotten my license a few months back and only being 16 she's my first car and i couldnt be happier, especially since she came at an amazing price. FREE :flipoff:

Most of ya seem to be off road oriented which is sweet, unfortunately there isn't really any of that around here and its not really my thing, so shes gonna be a mall crawler.

What do ya'll think? Oh yeah, fro what Ive read it sound like stock this should have 265/70/16 tires correct? She's got 245/70/16's. Strange?

And on Edit: Shes a little Frosty if you were wondering what that is on the windows, she needs them rims fixes cause there crazy chipped, and the "i love my volvo" lisence plate frames on a Toyota i never understood, so there going too

Welcome to the boards! Yes, 265/70/16 is stock tire size if for your rims. Glad to see you're on the site. I'd definitely clean those wheels up and repaint them when the weather turns around. It'll make it look 1000times better

So these tires, studded winter, are actually smaller than stock? Interesting. Guess thats why i averaged 23mpg highway last week =) Any recommendations on cleaning those up? My dad said he would buy me a second set so id have one summer and one winter set up and i wanted to get these cleaned up and painted black. any idea how much it would cost to have it professionally done? I think the rim damage might be beyond power tools.

Best bet is to clean them real good, sand 'em down prep them with some primer and then paint. Rust-O-leum makes a good rattle can product. It's not hard to do yourself- majority of us guys on here have done our own. Search the forum and you'll find a couple different write ups and stuff. You could send them off to get powder coated but it costs a lot more. You'd be surprised how much some cleaning and good sanding can clean them up.

Granted I'm on the other side of the country, but I got a quote to powder coat my wheels, just a flat black it was 150 a pop.. Nice truck!

$150 a wheel? Buy the cans of paint and do it yourself - the guys on here did and they look great.

I too find it hard to believe that off roading/trails are hard to find in Alaska! I guess in rural areas the driving age is 16? Its 18 here in NJ - should be 21, hoping they raise it soon!.:dammit:

Ok so I'll search around and try and do em myself. I've seen people using plasti-dip. How would that work out? And I kinda wanted to do a color around the rim. Proabaly red. How would that look and is it even easily possible? I'm still kinda wondering why I have smaller tires. Just strange to me why my mom would have put smaller ones on.

Yeah there are places to go but it's really not what you may think. The entire area around me is a national Forrest so nothing there but hiking. There's plenty of snowmachining and a little arc trails in my area but less than you'd imagine. In other parts of the state there's more but I'm in the more urban area of the state. Plus I don't know anyone else that off roads, so that's not really something I'm heading toared on the runner.
