Howdy, I'm in the throes of purchasing a 4Runner, and have found this forum to be a great resource, and a good community. So, thought I would join up and stop lurking.
We live in Juneau, Alaska which has about 40 miles of road. However, there is a ferry that can take us north to Haines or Skagway and onto the ALCAN. Not that we do that too often, but still, the allure is there. I do occasionally drive the interior for work. My plans for the 4Runner include a trip on the Dempster to Inuvik sometime this fall - August.
We are long distance sea-kayakers and ultra-light backpackers. The fascination with a 4runner is that it can open up new opportunities for paddling our own boats -- as opposed to renting kayaks -- in different places and for combining that with short backpacking in the Yukon or NW Territories. I also just want to drive on an open, unpaved, road.
